We are seeking a highly engaged and enthusiastic Lead Program Manager to join our team. 

This individual is ready to take on a hands-on role. The ideal candidate will excel in driving organizational change and be adept at crafting materials for executive leaders. This role will provide invaluable cross-functional exposure by engaging closely with executives and cross functional leaders, offering insights into the inner workings of Avalara’s leadership. The Sr. Program Manager position offers significant potential for career advancement, providing invaluable exposure to leaders, driving some of our most important customer transformation and efficiency initiatives.

This role is instrumental in helping Avalara achieve its goals on delivering a digital-first service experience.  It will be high visibility, and high impact. We’re looking for business leaders who can align cross-functional teams to common missions, resolve blockers, develop recommendations that drive measurable outcomes and results. 

This role will be based out of our Durham, NC office.  A hybrid work schedule is required (likely 3 days in the office, or as needed).  Relocation assistance is available. C2C is NOT available for this role.

Job Duties

  • Lead cross-functional, high-impact projects and provide analytical support as directed by the leadership of Customer Experience Strategy & Programs 
  • Work with and coordinate among functional executives on cross-company projects
  • Act as a consultant and owner on various strategic initiatives, providing critical project management support and executive level visibility and prioritization
  • Implement, coordinate, and measure initiative outcomes, KPIs and improvement initiatives across all functional areas
  • Manage and complete the successful implementation of strategic initiatives that enable revenue growth and accelerate company profitability and efficiency
  • Partner with various VP and EVP sponsors of specific initiatives
  • Lead scoping sessions to clarify initiatives, mission, commitments, and working teams
  • Lead initiatives by identifying and resolving impediments
  • Lead regular Program ROB’s that identify insights and translate into actions
  • Lead annual initiative planning efforts that translate objectives into clear strategies, actions and resource commitments
  • Track and follow-up on top actions from ROB’s

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in operations, strategy, or product (e.g., change management, M&A integration, engineering program management, product, etc.)
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; MBA preferred 
  • Demonstrated competency with implementing business processes, systems, and reporting
  • Experience managing and leading teams and solid project management skills, having managed and successfully delivered multiple, complex projects on-time and on-budget
  • Robust analytical and quantitative skills, as well as attention to detail
  • Demonstrated success in a high pressure, dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Proficient ability to drive change in a matrixed environment
  • Executive presence, relationship building, strong decision-making skills
  • High level of proficiency with MS Office (PowerPoint and Excel)
