Full-Time Lead Housekeeper
Job Description
Elmira College is a private liberal arts College located in the Finger Lakes region of New York. Seeking innovative professionals from diverse academic and cultural backgrounds to fill the position of Lead Housekeeper to join the open and welcoming Buildings and Grounds team.
The Lead Housekeeper is a hands-on position, assisting with the work activities of cleaning personnel to ensure clean, orderly, and attractive rooms and common areas at Elmira College. The Lead Housekeeper will provide daily communication with housekeeping staff to meet standards set by Elmira College.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Conduct training of Housekeeping staff;
- Fill in for staff who are out due to vacations/sick;
- Act as back-up supervisor when Housekeeping Manager is not on site;
- Cleaning activities including, but not limited to: dusting, vacuuming, polishing, window washing, stripping and re-finishing floors, etc.;
- Remove trash and recyclables from office, academic, and residential buildings;
- Maintain and order supplies when needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school education and/ or GED, preferred;
- A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving history per employer’s insurance;
- Up to 12 months related experience, preferred;
- Ability to stand for long periods of time;
- Ability to stoop, bend, twist and reach;
- Ability to lift and carry 50+ pounds;
- Maintain flexible work schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call as needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed primarily in indoor campus settings. In some cases, housekeepers may be outdoors when having to walk from building to building. Housekeepers work with cleaning chemicals and may be in contact with soiled items, body fluids, airborne particles, fumes and dust. Noise level is typically low to moderate.
