Location: Lexington, MA
About the role:
You will be the single point of contact and subject matter expert for Industrial Hygiene across the company. You will oversee the implementation of global Industrial Hygiene standards across the company to ensure that health hazards in the workplace are adequately assessed for risk and managed, as well as provide training and expertise to the EHS teams at sites and regions to support successful industrial hygiene program execution and support evaluation and selection of external laboratories who analyze IH samples.
This is a hybrid role that reports to the Head of EHS R&D and Vaccines.
How you will contribute:
- Be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Industrial Hygiene (IH). Implement relevant standards and related resources and practices to deploy across the company to ensure health hazards are risk assessed and managed.
- Provide expertise in the SME area and ensure that engineering and administrative controls are appropriate and validated to function as intended.
- Provide SME input to design, construct and maintain industrial hygiene related topics for our global facilities. Participate on other corporate EHS partner teams (i.e., Safety Data Sheets)
- Monitor Industrial Hygiene program performance of sites across the company– consisting of internal manufacturing locations, R&D locations and Vaccines locations as well as providing support to external manufacturing and research partnerships. Communicate performance issues and opportunities to site leadership, regional leadership and corporate EHS leadership.
- Lead execution of global Industrial Hygiene Initiatives. Work in partnership with other functions across the company to advance IH initiatives in a collaborative manner.
- Foster environment for knowledge sharing and development of Industrial Hygiene expertise. Ensure site EHS teams understand the necessary IH resources and capabilities to accomplish the IH program.
- Be a role model for Takeda-ism. Collaborate with the corporate EHS team, corporate DD&R partners, and site EHS teams to understand EHS Industrial Hygiene needs and assure understanding of EHS standards and requirements.
- Chair internal corporate EHS industrial Hygiene community of practice to promote industrial hygiene programs, policies and best practices across Takeda.
- Develop and manage relationships and budgets with third-party consultants and vendors related to corporate EHS industrial hygiene systems. Ensure the execution of EHS Industrial Hygiene enhancements and the development of additional tools / processes needed to support EHS Industrial Hygiene.
- Contribute to other global health and safety initiatives/projects, and support other duties as assigned.
What you bring to Takeda:
- Degree in life sciences, engineering, chemical engineering, or similar field.
- 6 – 8 years of experience in Pharmaceutical, Biopharmaceutical, or associated industry; experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, regulatory agencies, and vendors; previous experience in program management and demonstrated application of health and safety practices.
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or globally recognized equivalent.
- Possess a deep knowledge of Industrial Hygiene programs and practices and EHS standards and best practices, laws, and regulations, and experience with exposure modeling. Able to translate this knowledge to actionable programs.
- Demonstrated experience with the implementation and sustainment of a EHS Industrial Hygiene program on a global scale.
Important Considerations

- Work in a controlled environment requiring special gowning and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body. This may include additional hearing protection for loud areas.
- Need to remove all make-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish and/or artificial fingernails while in the manufacturing environment.
- Work in a cold, wet environment.
- Work multiple shifts, including weekends, or be asked to work supplemental hours, as necessary.
- Work around chemicals such as alcohol, acids, buffers and Celite that may require respiratory protection.
