Are you interested in educating, motivating, and inspiring youth players to be the best they can be? Well come join our Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources team as a Lead Baseball Instructor. We are looking for coaches that are able, responsible, and motivating enough to lead a team. We are interested in baseball enthusiasts with a high baseball IQ, that love the sport and want to spread that interest and knowledge to younger players. This position will report directly to the USA Baseball National Training Complex full time staff.
This is a temporary/part time position and will average 20 hours per week. Staff must be able to work a flexible schedule to meet programming demands.
Staff must be able to work during any camp sessions when those are scheduled, along with some weekend schedules, depending upon programming. Additional schedules may be added throughout the year for other baseball camps and clinics.
Typical Tasks
- Instruct baseball camps, clinics and one-on-one lessons for youth ages 5-18;
- Create new clinics and baseball programs;
- Prepare lesson plans and teaching manuals for all scheduled activities;
- Plan, implement, and evaluate successful baseball training sessions that are geared toward the development of essential skills of baseball;
- Supervise other baseball instructors when needed during larger clinics and camps;
- Conducts one-on-one lessons as scheduled;
- Assists with camps and clinics, leading when necessary;
- Lead and motivate staff to provide the highest level of service to patrons;
- Develops and plans all hitting/fielding components of camps and clinics;
- Leads other baseball instructors as needed;
- Interacts with parents, students, co-workers, and the general public in a mature, responsible, diplomatic, yet firm manner, ensuring the safety of participants, along with their successful and enjoyable recreational experience;
- Will create lesson plans for all instruction as needed;
- Performs other job-related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated knowledge of baseball skills;
- Skilled in communication with individual students, as well as groups, parents, other participants and citizens;
- Ability to lead and motivate staff to provide the highest level of service to patrons;
- Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate successful baseball training sessions that are geared toward the development of the essential basic skills of baseball;
- Physical ability to work on the baseball field in typical summer weather conditions such as high heat or rain showers, for extended periods of time.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
REQUIRES:
- 1+ years of baseball/softball playing experience at a collegiate or equivalent level
- Requires a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving history
PREFERS:
- CPR/First Aid Certification.
- Extensive experience running baseball camps and clinics or in coaching a baseball team
- 1+ years of experience coaching at high school varsity level
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal history check, motor vehicle records check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.
