Full-Time Laboratory Engineering Technician III
Job Description
- Perform materials testing used in the construction of North Carolina roads and bridges.
- Learn and conduct tests on soils, coarse and fine aggregates, aggregate base course, concrete, and other materials for NCDOT compliance.
- Oversee junior lab technicians and communicate with Contractor and NCDOT staff to ensure compliance with NCDOT specifications.
- Perform data entry into HiCams to generate test reports and maintain our in-house Excel database.
- Assist with arranging daily work schedules for laboratory technicians at testing stations.
- Maintain laboratory equipment inventory list.
- Ensure all equipment is in good working condition, including coordinating routine maintenance, repair, and replacement.
- Perform and upkeep required routine calibration of testing equipment.
- Knowledge of techniques, practices, and testing procedures related to concrete, cementitious materials, aggregate, and soil materials.
- Knowledge of quality management systems and the requirements of technicians and equipment.
- Communication skills working with technicians, work units, or external customers on technical issues.
- Computer skills using testing and office software, including Microsoft Office and HiCams.
- Report and technical documentation development experience.
- Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, and
- 3+ years relevant technician-level experience; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
