About the Job
We are looking for a highly creative Web Designer at the junior level, defined as having two or more years of hands-on experience in the role. You will be assisting with configuring and conducting online surveys, designing, and implementing new UI features, and responsible for ensuring that the foundational structure of each client’s web-based projects enable ease of maintenance and enhancement. You will be working with a talented team of user experience web UI and graphic designers and software developers. You will be assisting with all aspects of website and application design.
To ensure success as a junior web designer with HumRRO, you need to possess a passion for creative website design and as well as meticulous attention to detail. You need to enjoy working as a member of a talented and highly collaborative team. The environment can be fast paced and is highly technical. You will, however, be doing work that matters to real people, helping to ensure fairness in the careers of our client’s staff while helping to improve our client’s operations and culture.
- Design and develop responsive and mobile-friendly web sites and pages using modern HTML, CSS and other tools. Some experience or eagerness to learn Javascript to build custom, dynamic functionality is highly desirable
- Collaborate with UX/UI designers and back-end software developers to deliver high-quality web applications
- Create and maintain website layouts, user interfaces, and graphics
- Incorporate accessibility best practices into web design where appropriate
- Author and design surveys and exams using a HumRRO proprietary tool set
- A general understanding of website performance for search engine optimization (SEO) is highly desirable
- Write clean, well-documented, and maintainable code
- Debug and troubleshoot front-end issues and work with the team to provide appropriate solutions
- Keep up to date with emerging trends and technologies in front-end development and design and be ready to bring awareness of these to your teammates
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Proficient in modern HTML and CSS, some Javascript proficiency is a plus but not required
- Proficient in graphic design tools such as Adobe Photoshop or Sketch
- Experience with responsive web design and cross-browser compatibility
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Web Design or a related field is preferred
U.S. citizenship is required for this position based on government contract requirements.
This is a contract position located at our corporate headquarters office in Old Town Alexandria, VA.
