Full-Time Junior System Administrator

SALARY: $31,106.00-$55,761.00
LOCATION: Niceville Campus
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt
Duties and Responsibilities
- The Junior System Administrator is responsible for maintaining all servers and applications used by the College.
- Install and configure server operating systems and applications.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware problems.
- Provide assistance in developing and maintaining systems standards and ensuring said standards adhered to by all staff personnel.
- Provide technical assistance to all users of computer services when hardware/software problems are encountered.
- Install new software releases, perform system upgrades, evaluate and install software and security patches, and resolve software-related issues.
- Support installing, loading, and configuring servers, server connectivity issues, perform server upgrades and migration to new system-level software.
- Perform regular day-to-day Systems Administration activities such as User Administrations, Disk Management, Package Install, Patch Management, Storage Management, NFS Administration and disaster recovery/fail-over exercises.
- Perform Incident & Problem Resolution, ensure that all systems have adequate security & system access controls.
- Monitor performance of all software applications and related hardware.
- Responsible for regular backup and restoration processes.
- Manage campus virtualization platform.
- Configure, maintain and manage campus storage area networks.
- Maintain server operating systems while working with other IT staff to ensure application performance and security.
- Design and manage server backup and/or replication processes in support of the College’s business continuity plan.
- Complete annual mandatory compliance training.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Information Officer.

Minimum Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Computer Science or related field required, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Demonstrated expertise managing operating systems and applications.
- Knowledge of storage area network design and configuration.
- Ability to translate security directives into operating system configurations.
- Familiarity with virtualized server environments and systems.
- Knowledge of server hardware.
- Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Baccalaureate degree preferred
- Three years of work-related experience preferred.
- Work experience in the higher education setting preferred.
- LINUX/UNIX experience preferred.
- Ability to use word-processing, spreadsheet, and database technology preferred.
- Programming experience or training is preferred.
