Full-Time Junior Accountant

Role Overview

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Accounting, the Junior Accountant is responsible for providing various accounting and financial support to the accounting team. The Junior Accountant must post journal entries, reconcile bank accounts, reconcile the general ledger and prepare ad-hoc financial reports on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.

Location:

1300-522 University Avenue, Toronto, Ontario. Flexible work agreement policy in place allowing employees to work on a hybrid schedule, working remotely with the expectation of being in-office 3 days per week. During the training period there is an expectation of being in-office 4 days a week.

This role includes, but not limited to:

General Ledger

  • Maintain the General Ledger and prepare ad-hoc financial analyses and reports, as requested.
  • Participate in month end close processes related to expense accruals and accounts payable ageing analyses.
  • Manage and report day-to-day bank and corporate visa transactions including monthly preparation of bank and visa reconciliations.
  • Prepare various balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Post and reconcile various intercompany transactions and accounts monthly.
  • Recognize and account for revenue according to GAAP
  • Prepare various financial reports for accountants by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.

Accounts Payable Functions

  • Ensure accounts payable invoices are processed in a timely, accurate, controlled, and efficient manner, reviewing detailed invoice descriptions to identify among others; prepayments, deposits etc.
  • Match accounts payable invoices to purchase orders and Goods receipts in accordance with the delegation of authority policy guidelines.
  • Maintain historical records by filing documents and keeping the filing system current.

Other Role and Responsibilities

  • Support interim and annual external audits.
  • Assume other tasks that may be delegated by the Senior Manager including but not limited to being back up for accountants.
  • Document simple business and accounting processes and procedures

The ideal candidate possesses:

  • Minimum 2-year diploma (bachelor’s degree preferred) in accounting, finance, or related field of study.
  • Current and valid Certified Professional Bookkeeper (CPB) designation preferred.
  • Minimum 2-3 years previous bookkeeping experience.
  • Experience in the non-profit is an asset.
  • Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in the use of relevant computerized and cloud-based financial accounting systems.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Independent, highly motivated and a self-starter.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of payroll and benefits administration
  • Demonstrate a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating multiple systems and financial business processes.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
