Full-Time IT Project Manager I (Remote)
Job Description
The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is seeking a proactive and dynamic IT Project Manager to oversee routine IT projects, streamline IT purchasing processes, and contribute to the delivery of innovative technology solutions. This is your opportunity to make an impact by ensuring IT initiatives are executed efficiently and aligned with state regulations while keeping DEQ at the forefront of environmental technology. The IT Project Manager I is responsible for managing moderately complex IT projects and serves as the vital link between DEQ’s Purchasing Office and IT operations.
Duties include, but are not limited, to:
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee small to medium-scope IT projects, ensuring milestones are met and deliverables align with DEQ’s goals
- Lead cross-functional teams and, when required, support larger projects under the direction of senior project management staff
- Be the primary liaison with DEQ’s Purchasing Office for IT-related acquisitions and ensuring compliance with IT procurement and security policies. Guide employees through IT requirements by entering the project in DIT’s project management system, submitting privacy and security approvals, and exceptions
- Support our IT team by purchasing goods, services, and licenses. Facilitate the preparation and submission of requests for proposals (RFPs), requests for quotations (RFQs), and contracts. Monitor procurement activities, ensuring timely delivery and compliance with contractual terms and project specifications
- Support DEQ’s CIO in strategic and budget planning; summarizing IT projects and ensuring they contribute to the strategic goals of the State, NCDIT, and DEQ
- Maintain a broad understanding of IT concepts, including hardware, software, and security, to ensure all purchases and projects meet technical and operational standards
