Summary/Objective

The IT Intern supports IT staff in the maintenance of hardware, software and systems.  They participate in development of desktops, computers, network equipment, and security.

Essential Functions

Required Education and Experience

IT Interns must be in pursuit of a degree in computer science, information technology or engineering.

Required Skills

  • Desktop support
  • Typing – at least 40 words per minute
  • Structured, disciplined troubleshooting

  • Cisco Network Equipment
  • Cisco Security Appliances

Supervisory Responsibility

There are no direct supervisory responsibilities.  The highest performers will be team players who are well-versed in mentoring.  Leadership during projects, outages, or incidents is required.

Work Environment or Working Conditions

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This job requires the ability to work in stressful, time-critical situations.  Priorities frequently shift based on customer requests and operational issues.  Some off-hours and on-call work is required.

Physical Demands

IT Interns frequently:

  • Sit for at least 4 hours per day.
  • Repeat the same movements.
  • Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.

It is important for IT Interns to be able to:

  • See details of objects that are less than a few feet away.
  • Speak clearly so listeners can understand.
  • Understand the speech of another person.
  • Use fingers to grasp, move, or assemble very small objects.

It is not as important, but still necessary, for IT Interns to be able to:

  • See details of objects that are more than a few feet away.
  • See differences between colors, shades, and brightness.
  • Hear sounds and recognize the difference between them.
  • Focus on one source of sound and ignore others.
  • Make quick, precise adjustments to machine controls.
  • Hold the arm and hand in one position or hold the hand steady while moving the arm.
  • Use one or two hands to grasp, move, or assemble objects.

Travel

This position requires up to 25% travel.
