Full-Time IT Application Systems Specialist

Overview

Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine is searching for an Application Systems Specialist. Responsible for training, support and administration of assigned application systems within a business, clinical, academic or research unit. Manages design and maintenance of security, work flows, reporting and auditing for assigned applications. Acts as a liaison between application stakeholders and the IT department. Position is within the IT department and is assigned to a specific unit. Performance benchmarks are established between the IT department and the assigned unit, and are periodically evaluated.

 

Has the flexibility of remote working solutions located within the state of Michigan.

Responsibilities

  • Provides administration for various application system.
  • Develops workflows within a business, clinical or academic unit.
  • Provides and/or assists in creating regular and ad hoc reports as requested.
  • Conducts audits and maintains integrity of data systems and document files.
  • Establishes and maintains up to date processes and reporting documentation.
  • Acts as a liaison between third party vendors and the business, clinical, academic or research unit as needed.
  • Leads and participates in the planning and testing of system updates.
  • Assists with ongoing training and support of new and existing users within the business, clinical, academic or research unit.
  • Responsible for assisting in the orientation and training of new employees, contractors, students and volunteers on various application systems.
  • Recommends process improvement.
  • Assist with special projects.
  • Availability to work on weekends or evenings to complete time sensitive projects.
  • Acquires knowledge for new technology and policy/procedure revisions.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree/experience combination.
  • Minimum three years’ experience working as application specialist or comparable position.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency in using personal computer. equipment and related software.
  • High degree of integrity to maintain absolute confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in data reporting and schema mapping.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities in organization of work flow.
  • Ability to meet assigned deadlines.
  • Ability to interpret, comprehend, and transmit complicated and detailed instructions accurately.
  • Ability to perform duties independently, with a minimal need for direct supervision.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in grammar and spelling skills.
