Full-Time IP Internet Protocol Engineer I

For this position you will perform the implementation of new hardware and/or software as it relates to internet operation engineering projects, maintain the lifecycle management environment within the Data Center and Local Offices; Assists with upgrades to the internet product and all-inclusive IP routing/switching, assist with the creation of Low Level Design (LLD) documentation for configuration templates, method of procedures, network diagrams, knowledge base articles, bill of materials and support documentation and conduct training for new technology integration, technology upgrades, new product design.

Set forth below is a list of the essential duties and responsibilities (or “essential functions”) of this position.

  • Performs implementation of new hardware and/or software as it relates to internet operation engineering projects.
  • Maintains the lifecycle management environment within the Data Center and Local Offices; Assists with upgrades to the internet product and all-inclusive IP routing/switching.
  • Assists with the creation of Low-Level Design (LLD) documentation for configuration templates, method of procedures, network diagrams, knowledge base articles, bill of materials and support documentation.
  • Conducts training for new technology integration, technology upgrades, new product design, and implementation to relevant Cable One team members.
  • Analyzes project requests to estimate time and cost.
  • Works as part of a project team to determine requirements, risks, and limitations for each project scope.
  • Performs on-call duties and overnight network changes as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university preferred; and minimum two years related progressive experience in a network engineering role required.
  • Previous working background in an MSO (Multiple System Operators) in the cable industry preferred.

Certificates, licenses, registrations

  • Associate-level networking certification required.
  • Professional-level networking certification preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

Other qualifications

  • Must be flexible and able to work on-call outside business hours.
  • Position will require up to 10% travel.
  • Network design and implementation project experience in one or more of the following areas preferred: backbone, data center, headend/CMTS, and optical transport.
  • Experience with the following vendor products preferred: Advanced routing products from Juniper (MX), CMTS platforms from Arris (E6000) and Cisco (ubr10k), Optical transport products from Alcatel-Lucent (1830).
  • Experience with IPv6, TR-069, DWDM, DOCSIS 3.1, SDN, and other relevant technologies and/or standards preferred.
  • Proficient with passive optical network (PON) products/technology preferred.
