The ICC Club Advisor & Student Engagement Specialist works as part of a larger team that creates a vibrant student experience outside the classroom. The ICC Club Advisor & Student Engagement Specialist serves as the department’s primary advisor to all recognized ICC student organizations; provides policy guidance, training, and event planning support; and supports the development and implementation of formal co-curricular student leadership programs. The ICC Club Advisor & Student Engagement Specialist will advance the work of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion by facilitating collaborative partnerships with a variety of constituents, and assisting in making programs and services inclusive and accessible to all students.

Job Description:

  • Provide advising support to student organizations in the areas of event planning, organizational development, contract negotiation/oversight and budget development through policy development, communications, and individual meetings. Responsible for supervision, risk management and advisement of ICC Coalition as well as campus-wide events/programs sponsored by recognized clubs. Attend weekend and evening club events. (Estimated time spent: 40%)
  • Manage the implementation of various department-wide leadership and traditional programming and processes that include, but not are limited to: ICC Club Leaders Training, Club Leaders Transition Training, Student Organization Annual reregistration process, and leadership programming that support club leader development and success. Training topics include but are not limited to self-governance, reinforcing the mission of their organization, effective fiscal management, collaborative learning, ethical leadership, diversity and inclusion, contract negotiation, and event planning. (Estimated time spent: 20%)
  • Serve as the primary administrator for the student organization management platform and maintain accurate organization records, track events and program evaluations, and promote student engagement. Generate reports on program accomplishments and areas for improvement. (Estimated time spent: 20%)
  • Support departmental programs and events that include, but not are limited to: Welcome Back BBQ, Culture X, ICC Anniversary, and ICC Stole Ceremony. (Estimated time spent: 10%)
  • Participate in divisional/university committees and initiatives that advance the work of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and assist in making programs and services inclusive and accessible to all students. (Estimated time spent: 5%)
  • Perform other duties as assigned related to the overall mission of the ICC and the changing needs of the communities at Brandeis university. (Estimated time spent: 5%)

 

Job Requirements:

  • BA/BS required/M.A./M.S. in a related discipline preferred. Work Experience: 3-5 years
  • Experience working with college students in a diverse and complex university setting is an important criterion for this position.
  • The successful candidate must possess specific knowledge of race, culture, nationality, language, immigration status, and issues of concern related to underserved people and communities in higher education. A demonstrated commitment to work in a multicultural, social justice oriented office with individuals and groups with a wide array of backgrounds and identities must be in evidence within past work experience.
  • The candidate must possess the ability to foster a supportive and student-centered environment; strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal communication skills; and have proven ability to work collaboratively, build coalitions, and sustain partnerships.
  • Disposition: A non-negotiable and essential element of this role is a demonstrated disposition toward supporting underserved people (e.g., BIPOC, undocumented, international, and those for whom English is not a first language) in their struggle for full and equitable access in society. A disposition that uncritically encourages assimilation or sublimation of these identities, even if under the guise of “benevolent” opinion, preference or religious belief, is inappropriate in this role and counter to the foundational mission of the Intercultural Center at Brandeis.
