Position SummaryInstructional Support Technician II/ Simulation Technician – Nursing position participates in the design, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing simulation curriculum. The technician will be an expert in health specific computer mediated learning and responsible for the maintenance of the manikins and serve as an administrator for the variety of simulators used by Lake Washington Institute of Technology. This position involves a large amount of student contact in the lab assisting students to meet course learning outcomes and works closely with faculty in other health programs to provide technical support in human patient simulation. The position reports to the Dean of Nursing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Install, replace, and configure simulation programs
• Serve as a simulator operator running pre-programmed scenarios
• Set up all equipment for daily training and course programs
• Conduct ongoing maintenance of all simulation equipment, including cleaning and repairing equipment
• Maintain all equipment in good working order by troubleshooting both hardware and software systems and network
• Interface with equipment manufacturers regarding equipment troubleshooting and system problems
• Actualize common healthcare procedures and principles as they apply to simulated medical experiences
• Support/Assist in role playing applications, prop placement and moulage set up
• Implement high fidelity simulation activities that meet the standards of realism, reliability, validity, feasibility, and risk management
• Work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and community partners in order to provide simulated training experiences, to include creation, implementation and evaluation of the scenarios used in simulation
• Provide technical assistance, support, and training in the use of simulation equipment, as needed
• Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment and conduct routine inventory updates
• Provide recommendation for budget and purchase of equipment, supplies and materials
• Prepare invoices for supply and equipment purchasing
• Maintain records of preventative maintenance and repairs
• Maintain current knowledge of best practices in simulation equipment and in industry updates, by participation in technical training, and attending conferences/seminars
• Identify opportunities for technological improvements in TCC health care education
• Apply health and safety regulations as mandated by Occupational Safety and Health Administration, including appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for the situation, emergency equipment, storage of chemicals, and maintenance of equipment
• Participate in activities of the faculty team, attend faculty and division meetings, and serve on departmental committees as elected or appointed
• Participate in development and evaluation of policies and standards for the use of the labs and equipment for faculty and student participants
• Manage vendors and various sales representatives related to all simulation activities
• Participate in area simulation user groups and attend industry events as a representative of Lake Washington Institute of Technology
• Educate area administrators, technicians, and faculty members on using/implementing Human Patient Simulation.
• Remain accessible to faculty/staff for questions, support etc.
• Assist with special projects or initiatives as needed
• Provide backup support for the Lab Coordinator role
• Perform other related duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
• Associate Degree in computer science, technology or medical simulation.
• Four years of experience providing academic support to students or similar experience or- equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
• Working knowledge of multiple types of operating systems and wireless technology.
• Working knowledge of audio-visual equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
• Ability to use and operate different simulator technology
• Working knowledge of medical terminology
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Compensation & Work Schedule:This position works 20(50% Full-Time) hours per week based on lab and class schedule ; schedule to be determined by the supervisor. This is a union-covered position, which requires the payment of membership dues/representation fees.
As defined by the current classified bargained agreement, newly hired employees shall be placed between Step C $1,957 and Step F $2,222.50 of the salary schedule in Appendix A of the Classified Union Bargaining Agreement. Employees hired with an associate degree will be placed at minimum of step D. Employees hired with a bachelor’s or master’s degree will be placed at minimum of step E. Ongoing (Step G- Step M) step advancement is defined by the classified bargained agreement. (Per current bargained agreement, Instructional Support Technicians are scheduled to work when classes are in session. As a result, actual salary may fluctuate depending on number of days worked). Salary placement for current classified employees is per the classified bargained agreement.
