SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in Washington State, that provides students with the latest cutting edge skills relevant to today’s workplace. LWTech offers ten applied bachelor’s degrees, more than 40 associate degrees and 93 professional certificates, in 43 areas of study, including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist with day-to-day functions within the Basic Education for Adults (BEdA) program, including the English Language Learning (ELL), High School Plus (HS+), and I-BEST programs. Work collaboratively with faculty and staff in these departments to deliver an excellent customer service experience to new and continuing students. Accurately administer required tests, assist with interpretation of results for students, assist with student intake and provide support to faculty. This is a classified position that typically works 40 hours per week. Working hours may vary but are typically between the hours of 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday. Schedule to be determined by supervisor. This position reports to the Associate Dean of Instruction, Basic Education for Adults.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Assist with Basic Education for Adults intake and testing in the Essential Skills Office

• Assist BEdA faculty, I-BEST navigators, department chairs, and college admissions coaches with providing information on basic education classes, including English Language Learning, I-BEST and HS+, to entering students

• Assist with coordination of activities between the Essential Skills Office and the college

• Assist in identifying students who have an interest in BEdA and college programs

• Serve as a liaison for student referrals between the Essential Skills Office, Workforce Development, and the I-BEST Navigators.

• Create, maintain, and manage program documents and information

• Maintain BEdA websites (BEdA, ELL, HS+, ABE) to ensure information is accurate and accessible

• Support I-BEST Navigators and BEdA faculty by responding to student inquiries, in providing specific program intake, and in following-up with students as needed

• Maintain ELL, HS+, and I-BEST student records

• Earn all certifications necessary in order to conduct all versions of BEdA and college placement testing

• Maintain CASAS certification records for BEdA

• Create marketing materials and manage the creation of materials in order to have flyers in multiple languages for ELL and HS+ programs

• Assist HS+ department chair with obtaining student ranscripts and with maintaining documentation showing credits earned

• Evaluate HS+ transcripts

• Assist department chairs with program documentation

• Create high school diplomas for graduates

• Attend and participate in internal and external marketing events in the community

• Generate documents as assigned using Microsoft Office and Adobe applications

• Prepare, order, assemble, catalog and distribute resource materials such as supplies, textbooks and equipment

• Maintain inventory and monitor emergency supplies

• Supervise work-study students and temporary help as assigned

• Assist in maintaining a neat, orderly work environment; operate equipment as directed

• Maintain regular and satisfactory attendance

• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• Associate’s Degree preferred

• Two years’ minimum experience in higher education, K-12 education or with a community based organization.

• Strong attention to detail with excellent organization and clerical skills; working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, employees, and the public; ability to work with diverse populations

Compensation & Work Schedule This is a union covered position. As defined by the current classified bargained agreement, newly hired employees shall be placed between Step C $4,308 and Step F $4,841 of the salary schedule in Appendix A of the Classified Union Bargaining Agreement. Employees hired with an associate degree will be placed at minimum of step D. Employees hired with a bachelor’s or master’s degree will be placed at minimum of step E. Ongoing (Step G $5,033- Step M $6,301) step advancement is defined by the classified bargained agreement. Salary placement for current classified employees is per the classified bargained agreement.
