SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in Washington State, that provides students with the latest cutting edge skills relevant to today’s workplace. LWTech offers ten applied bachelor’s degrees, more than 40 associate degrees and 93 professional certificates, in 43 areas of study, including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.

Summary of Responsibilities:
Instructional Support Technician maintains equipment: orders, inventories and organizes supplies, and tools both in general and in preparation of classes and take-down for specific assignments. Monitors lab activity for safety and industry practice both as part of the instructional team and in the absence of the primary instructor. Upholds safety, integrity and procedural expectations and operational rules of the program and of the college. Maintains a comprehensive knowledge of the occupational area through industry visits, reading, and other appropriate activities. Represents the program to various public and maintains a professional image of the program and college expectations to students, industry, vendors, and the general public. This position typically works only on the days class is in session and reports directly to the Dean of Instruction.
This position supports: Allied Health division programs- Dental, PTA, OTA, and Funeral services
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Follow and interpret policies, procedures, standard practices as they pertain to instruction and the college as a whole
• May enhance the teaching of a specific topic as a subject matter expert based on training, experience and/or industry certification
• Monitor student progress as directed by the instructor, monitor labs in instructors’ absences
• Demonstrate industry practices, attitudes, and procedures to students in daily operation of the training course
• Monitor students and demonstrates by example correct safety, sanitation and/or hazardous waste practices as appropriate to the particular healthcare environment, use of appropriate PPE at all times, etc.
• Provide leadership in maintaining safety, cleanliness, and orderliness of labs and classrooms.
• Assist with monitoring for theft of materials and damage to equipment, bringing all irregularities to the attention of the instructor.
• Assist with planning, supervision and safety of labs and other instructional spaces including lab use by special audiences, activities of field trips, visitors, or special event and display activities
• Maintain, repair, and clean lab equipment, in charge of laundry of linens used during lab activities, calibrate as appropriate, and maintain equipment and supply inventories, maintenance schedules, and purchasing records: order equipment and supplies Learn and operate within college practices for procurement, use, and disposal of college property, donated property, and abatement processes
• Assist with monitoring students to assure appropriate educational use of materials, machines and time
• Assist in procuring purchased and donated training aids and materials; receive, inventory and store received material; monitor tool check out and items off campus for repair or maintenance; track and coordinate any shared equipment and tools and schedule any shared lab use
• Uphold and model college expectations for civility and inclusion; be part of a team effort to assure a safe and inclusive learning space for all
• Maintain professional relationships with students enrolled in the program, acknowledging boundaries and responsibilities of the job; willingly uphold college policies and report unacceptable activities
• Maintain currency with industry practices; attend advisory committee meetings as needed; provide support for program related activities
• Create and contribute to positive relationships among the staff, students and campus community
• Model and maintain a professional image and demeanor including but not limited to appropriate actions, attitude, attire, speech, cleanliness and employment of personal safety equipment that transmits the message of a top caliber program and embodiment of college expectations to students, industry, vendors, the general public and campus audiences
• May supervise instructional assistants, work study students, temporary help and other helpers
• Perform with consistent reliability including satisfactory attendance and punctuality
• Operate college vehicles in accordance with laws and personal licensure to do so;
• Other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
• High school diploma or GED with two years minimum experience in the occupation or a graduate of the occupational program
• Proficient in understanding, interpreting, and explaining the vocabulary/nomenclature specific to the occupational area and in performing the specific occupational skills taught in the curriculum
• Ability to work independently and with staff, students, and vendors as an effective team member
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with students from diverse cultural backgrounds, ages, and ability levels
• Possess a current First Aid/CPR card and current proof of bloodborne pathogens training, or willingness to obtain same within 30 days of employment
• Washington State Driver’s license
• Willingness to learn new skills in technical areas, pedagogy, and in IT tools and applications as required by program evolution

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Compensation & Work Schedule:
This is a full-time (40 hours per week) union covered position. As defined by the current classified bargained agreement, newly hired employees shall be placed between Step C $3,917 and Step F $4,403 of the salary schedule in Appendix A of the Classified Union Bargaining Agreement. Employees hired with an associate degree will be placed at minimum of step D. Employees hired with a bachelor’s or master’s degree will be placed at minimum of step E. Ongoing (Step G- Step M) step advancement is defined by the classified bargained agreement. (Per current bargained agreement, Instructional Support Technicians are scheduled to work when classes are in session. As a result, actual salary may fluctuate depending on number of days worked). Salary placement for current classified employees is per the classified bargained agreement.
