Job Description:
The Instructional Designer reports to the CITL Director and provides instructional design expertise in the development, support, and evaluation of online, hybrid, and traditional courses, as well as assisting faculty, staff, and students with use of learning technologies. This involves working with faculty to design, develop, create, and evaluate high quality online classrooms that reflect best practices. The Instructional Designer primarily serves as a consultant to assist instructors with course development, teaching and learning strategies, assessment, technology, and instructional design projects.
The individual filling this position is expected to play a positive role in helping the College change as necessary to effectively carry out its mission
- Provide expertise in instructional planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of distance learning courses.
- Provide feedback and recommendations to faculty in both written and verbal formats for the improvement of course design.
- Research and evaluate technologies and course materials for accessible design and appropriate use in distance education. Communicate with faculty how these resources can be used in their distance education courses and assist with integrating the materials into online courses.
- Assist faculty with the improvement of instructional strategies, development of course materials and assessment techniques, and appropriate integration of instructional technologies and best practices.
- Make recommendations to faculty for improving accessibility of course material. Assist faculty with complying with accessibility requirements.
- Lead and coordinate training efforts for faculty.
- Train faculty and staff on technical and pedagogical skills needed for developing and delivering engaging and interactive distance learning courses.
- Train faculty and staff on universal design principles and techniques, including how to design and deliver ADA accessible courses.
- Support students using the LMS by assisting with troubleshooting.
- Create documentation and instructional materials (print, web, and video formats) to support faculty, staff, and students in use of the course management system and other instructional technologies and distance learning processes.
- Coordinate instructional design projects from inception to completion and documents, track, analyze, and report project findings to the department director.
- Assist with the maintenance of departmental records and electronic files, such as help ticket tracking.
- Complete annual mandatory compliance training.
- Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, educational technology, or related academic discipline required.
- Master’s degree in instructional design, educational technology, or related academic discipline preferred.
- Knowledge of ADA accessibility guidelines for online course delivery required.
- Experience teaching and/or learning online strongly preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience with instructional design, educational technology, distance learning, or a related field preferred.
- Experience with Canvas LMS in a higher education environment preferred.
- Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
