Job Description
- Assist with developing and managing research activities, initiating and coordinating pilot and demonstration projects, and documenting and evaluating outcomes with a focus on understanding and promoting innovative solutions to common challenges in public transportation, walking, and biking.
- Coordinate research efforts, including identifying research priorities, funding considerations, timelines, and implementation strategies, as well as participation on NCDOT and national research committees pertinent to Division activities.
- Oversee pilot and demonstration projects that deploy new mobility technologies at a small scale (local/regional) to test their feasibility and effectiveness.
- Assist with concept development and coordinate with collaborators to test and showcase innovative mobility solutions.
- Assist with the design and application of data-driven performance measures and evaluation plans.
- Assist our Deputy Director in decision-making, client contacts, meetings with local elected and system officials, and presentations to Executive Management and federal, state, and local officials.
- Experience initiating and implementing complex engineering, policy, and administrative programs or projects and evaluating their effectiveness.
- Demonstrated ability to research, evaluate, and recommend resources for Innovations and Data team activities.
- Management skills to manage staff, programs/projects, and consultants.
- Data collection and analysis skills especially with information and interpreting trends to inform policy initiatives.
- Communication skills to work effectively with agency staff, officials, and the public.
- Experience initiating and implementing programs/projects in one or more of these areas: Connected Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs), Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS), or multi-modal data warehousing.
- Knowledge of data collection, interpretation, and presentation methods related to mode-specific and multi-modal data sets, including volumes, projections, and forecasts for various modes.
- Ability to interpret and apply transportation planning and engineering principles and requirements to pilot and demonstration programs or projects.
- Knowledge of federal/state laws and funding sources applicable to pilot and demonstration programs or projects.
- Ability to assist our Deputy Director and Integrated Mobility Director in decision-making, client contacts, meetings with local elected and system officials, and presentations to Executive Management, federal, state, and local officials.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision, and to provide clear guidance, creativity, and critical thinking to support our planning, organization, integration, and innovative activities.
- Bachelor’s degree, and
- 5+ years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
