Full-Time Hydraulic Engineer II
Job Description
- Develop and support hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) studies for NCDOT transportation facilities that include:
- Hydraulic planning reports
- Drainage investigations
- Final hydraulic designs
- Riverine modeling
- Bridge and culvert hydraulic reports
- Stormwater management plans
- Floodplain compliance reports
- Participate in H&H storm response and recovery.
- Perform watershed modeling.
- Conduct advanced H&H modeling and design.
- Create stormwater control measure designs.
- Develop H&H best practices.
- Use your digital CAD skills for model development.
- Develop stormwater best management practices.
- Participate in field scoping.
- Conduct research and development.
- Lead training.
- Develop and support hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) studies for NCDOT transportation facilities that include:
- Knowledge of hydrologic/hydraulic design practices and riverine modeling related to transportation facilities.
- Knowledge of FEMA, FHWA & AASHTO stormwater regulations and guidance related to hydraulic design.
- Computer skills in Microsoft Office, Hydraulics modeling software, web-based GIS applications, MicroStation, and PDF viewers/editors.
- Demonstrated ability to apply engineering principles to typical design situations and making sound recommendations/decisions using guidelines, performance metrics, and sound engineering judgement.
- Experience conducting activities to meet goals while ensuring project quality and compliance.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well in a group with some supervision.
- Considerable knowledge and understanding of Hydraulics/Hydrology concepts, practices, and theories and the ability to use these in practice.
- Ability to provide consultation to clients or others related to the specific program/project.
- Ability to develop and/or create informational products, manage program/project plans, and develop and implement short-term strategies.
- Occasional overnight travel will be required.
- Field work may require you to climb steep terrain and thick undergrowth in adverse weather conditions.
- We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
- Bachelors Degree in engineering, and
- 3+ years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
