Full-Time Human Resources Generalist/ Benefits Specialist
Job Description
The Human Resource Generalist/Benefit Specialist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: benefits, leaves of absence, and on-boarding and off-boarding. This position may be located in one of our major office locations or may work remotely. The HR Generalist/Benefit Specialist reports to the Director of Human Resources.
Key Responsibilities:
- Help to manage employee benefit programs to ensure they are properly administered and compliant
- Evaluate the rate structure and work with the benefits vendor to recommend changes to benefit plans to improve coverage and/or deliver benefits more cost-effectively
- Conduct benefit orientations, including monthly and annual open enrollment and explain the benefit self-enrollment system
- Coordinate with third party to facilitate COBRA
- Respond to employee questions pertaining to health and benefit plans
- Manage leave of absence requests for designated employees by overseeing absence from leave to return
- Manage workers’ compensation claims with third-party administrator. Follow up on claims
- Assist with other Human Resources administrative functions such as processing new hires, terminations, status changes and pay changes
- Manage the incoming and outgoing mail
- Maintain and update HR files and records
- Assist with New Hire orientation and exit interviews
- Ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to HR matters
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, or a related field
- 2+ years of experience in Benefits Administration
- Knowledge of state and federal employment laws including EEO, AA, FMLA, ADA, unemployment, worker’s compensation, investigations, compensation and benefits
- High degree of flexibility, organization, and self-motivation
- Ability to professionally handle and maintain confidential information
- PHR, CBP or other creditable HR certificates is also preferred
