The Brighton Youth Advice Centre (YAC) is a busy, support and advice service that has been delivering excellent services to young people across the city for 30 years. Working to the Youth Information, Advice and Counselling Services (YIACS) model, the Brighton YAC is the single point of access for homelessness advice for 16-15-year-olds. The YAC also hosts other YMCA DLG services such as family mediation and tenancy support, as well as their general advice provision, offering support and advice on a range of topics including sexual health, emotional health and wellbeing, and debt and benefits.

We are looking for two Housing Advice Workers who will provide information, advice, guidance, and support to young people around a wide variety of issues. The aim of the role is to advise and support young people aged 16-26 who are homeless or threatened with homelessness as the first point of access in the city. You will need to provide holistic advice and support, by working innovatively with young people and engaging them and their families as well as other professionals, helping them to meet their housing and wellbeing needs.

This role is based on site at the YAC in Brighton – working hours will be between Monday to Friday 9am-5pm, specific days and hours can be discussed at interview

You will be passionate about working with young people and supporting them to work towards independence. You will need to be empathic of issues facing young people, especially those who are socially excluded. A holistic and adaptable approach when working with young people is key in this role. A successful candidate will also be enthusiastic to work collaboratively and positively as part of a team, delivering robust housing advice. The ability to identify, develop and maintain effective partnerships with external agencies is desirable. Applications from candidates with lived experience will be welcomed.
