YOUR DAY-TO-DAY WORK
As the CIC Health HIPAA Compliance Manager, working as part of the CIC Health Legal Team, and reporting to the General Counsel, you will act as the point-person for HIPAA and other legal and compliance questions within CIC Health. You will manage corporate privacy compliance practices and produce privacy documents from draft to execution.

Your primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Building a strategic and comprehensive privacy program that defines, develops, maintains and implements policies and processes that enable consistent, effective privacy practices which minimize risk and ensure the confidentiality of protected health information (PHI), paper and/or electronic, across all media types. Ensuring privacy forms, policies, standards, and procedures are up-to-date.
• Working with CIC Health management, CIT, and core leadership to establish governance for the privacy program.
• Overseeing, developing and delivering initial and ongoing privacy training to the workforce. Providing training material and courses to help employees understand HIPAA regulation and how it will impact their organizational duties. Additionally, initiating, facilitating and promoting activities to foster information privacy awareness within the organization and related entities. These programs will be updated as needed and as HIPAA regulation updates occur.
• Collaborating with various CIC Health teams to ensure alignment between security and HIPAA compliance programs including policies, practices, and investigations.
• Establishing an ongoing process to track, investigate and report inappropriate access and disclosure of protected health information. Monitoring patterns of inappropriate access and/or disclosure of protected health information.
• Performing or overseeing initial and periodic information privacy risk assessment/analysis, mitigation and remediation.
• Conducting related ongoing compliance monitoring activities in coordination with the organization’s other compliance and operational assessment functions.
• Taking a lead role to ensure the organization has and maintains appropriate privacy and confidentiality consents, authorization forms and information notices and materials reflecting current organization and legal practices and requirements.
• Participating in the development, implementation, and ongoing compliance monitoring of all business associates and business associate agreements, to ensure all privacy concerns, requirements, and responsibilities are addressed.
• Working cooperatively with other departments in overseeing patient rights to inspect, amend, and restrict access to protected health information when appropriate.
• Managing all required breach determination and notification processes under HIPAA and applicable federal breach rules and requirements.
• Establishing and administering a process for investigating and acting on privacy and security complaints. Using considerable sound judgment in adapting and interpreting the general guidelines for application to specific cases to decide the most appropriate course of action to take. This includes devising new procedures, adapting to new computer technology, and instituting changes.
• Performing required breach risk assessment, documentation, and mitigation. Working with executive leadership and Human Resources to ensure consistent application of sanctions for privacy violations.
• Ad hoc projects as needed and as appropriate.

YOU HAVE
• A bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) from a four-year college or university.
• A minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience.
• Knowledge of corporate law and compliance best practices.
• Experience working as a paralegal or in a legal environment preferred.
• Proficiency with applications and software such as Gmail, Gdocs, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. The requirements listed above are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
