Full-Time Help Desk Specialist
Job Description
Elmira College is a private liberal arts College located in the Finger Lakes region of New York. Seeking innovative professionals from diverse academic and cultural backgrounds to fill the position of (Position title) to join the open and welcoming (Department) team.
The (Position) is responsible for providing technical support and consultation to all members of the Elmira College Community. The Help Desk Specialist is expected to provide Level 1 support and information to the college community using a variety of communication channels including phone, email, chat, and remote support applications.
This position will also work closely with the fellow IT staff to provide Level 2 support of technology assets including laptops, desktops, classroom technology, computer labs, and audio-visual/multimedia equipment, as they are capable.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Respond to a variety of support requests in-person, through phone calls, emails, or remotely;
- Perform basic troubleshooting aiming for first call / contact resolution;
- Develop and maintain knowledge base articles, and process documentation;
- Assist in the installation and maintenance of technology related equipment including audio visual, multimedia, desktop and laptop computers, printers, etc.;
- Assist in the setup and tear down of AV equipment for various campus events;
- Support various software applications, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and Google Workspace.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or GED is required;
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in a computer related field is preferred, recent graduates are welcome to apply;
- One to 3 years of experience is preferred;
- Willingness to work on evenings and weekends occasionally throughout the year in support of campus activities.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed primarily in a Help Desk environment with frequent public contact and interruptions. Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; sitting for extended periods of time; to occasionally bend, kneel, reach, twist and lift; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard.
