Job Description
The Oregon Health Authority (OHA), Public Health Division (PHD), Acute and Communicable Disease Prevention (ACDP) Section in Portland, Oregon has a fantastic career opportunity for a Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAI) Epidemiologist (Epidemiologist 2) to develop and coordinate activities designed to enhance Oregon’s surveillance for healthcare-acquired infections (HAIs) within the Healthcare Associated Infections Community Interface Emerging Infections Program (HAIC EIP) of the ACDP.
The Acute and Communicable Disease Prevention (ACDP) Section is charged with preventing the spread of communicable disease in the State of Oregon through surveillance and epidemiologic studies as well as education and preventive actions. The section serves all Oregonians and works directly with local health departments, private physicians, other health care providers, other Public Health Division staff, and staff members of other state and federal agencies. What you will do:
In this role, you will lead the development and coordination of activities, oversee surveillance initiatives and special projects related to the Healthcare-Associated Infections Community Interface Emerging Infections Program, and work with staff to ensure grant deliverables are complete. You will also serve as a member of the general ACDP epidemiology staff, participating in outbreak response and responding to queries from local officials, clinicians, the process, and the lay public. This role is crucial to effectively maintain surveillance, response, and prevention supporting vulnerable populations in healthcare settings throughout Oregon. Your responsibilities may include preparing reports, participating in grant writing, developing protocols, coordinating studies, responding to outbreaks in healthcare settings, and disseminating training materials to healthcare staff within Oregon.

Monthly Salary: $5,747 – $8,831
Work Location: Portland, OR (Hybrid)
Minimum Qualifications:
A master’s degree in epidemiology, environmental health, public health, or a closely related field AND three years of professional-level epidemiologic or research experience of which one year must have been in a supervising, lead worker, or project leadership role;
OR
A bachelor’s degree in in epidemiology, environmental health, public health, or a closely related field AND four years of professional-level epidemiologic or research experience of which one year must have been in a supervising, lead worker, or project leadership role.
Desired Attributes:
- Experience in epidemiologic principles and infectious disease surveillance systems.
- Experience with methods of managing and analyzing infectious disease data by computer.
- Experience monitoring data collection and data entry to ensure the quality of infectious diseases.
- Experience evaluating epidemiologic data to develop valid interpretations of the data.
- Experience writing scientific reports and preparing graphic summaries of surveillance data.
- Experience utilizing the principles of infection control in healthcare settings.
- Experience adhering to the highest standards of confidentiality regarding patient information.
- Experience creating, promoting, welcoming, and maintaining a culturally competent and diverse work environment.
