What you will be doing:
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Health and Safety Manager will develop and implement health and safety plans in line with legal guidelines and enforce policies that promote a culture of safety. Collaborating with supervisors, they will foster a “Safety First” mindset by encouraging best practices, providing training, leading health and safety meetings, and conducting root cause analyses to address and correct safety issues.
- Develop and implement comprehensive health and safety programs, policies, and procedures in accordance with legal requirements and company standards.
- Lead the annual safety campaign, “Ambition Zero – Together!”, with the goal of achieving zero lost time incidents (LTI).
- Drive BBS initiatives to build and sustain a safety-first culture across all levels of the organization.
- Provide training and support to employees and supervisors on BBS principles and best practices.
- Oversee the “Good Catch” program to encourage proactive identification and reporting of potential hazards.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and other safety concerns to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain records and reports related to workplace injuries, incidents, and safety inspections.
- Manage the Worker’s Compensation program and internal Fire Protection program.
- Develop and conduct health and safety training programs for all employees, ensuring they understand and comply with safety regulations.
- Lead regular health and safety meetings and toolbox talks to reinforce safety awareness and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal health and safety regulations and company policies.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Perform risk assessments and develop strategies to minimize risks and prevent accidents, injuries, and occupational diseases.
- Collaborate with operations personnel to implement safety measures and controls to mitigate identified risks.
- Analyze safety data and trends to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to enhance overall safety performance.
- Stay current with industry best practices and regulatory changes to continuously improve the health and safety program.
What you bring:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in health and safety management, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar certification is strongly preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Experience with Behavioral Based Safety (BBS) programs and safety management systems.
- Ability to influence and drive a culture of safety across the organization.
- Proactive and results-oriented with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Strong leadership, communication, and training skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of the organization.
