Job Description

Job Title: Head of Major Gifts
Location: Contracted to our Head Office in London, with flexible working arrangements.
Terms: 3-4 days per week (22.5 – 30 hours)
Contract: Permanent
Salary: £49,000 – £55,000 pro-rata

Purpose of the Role
The Head of Major Gifts will be responsible for building and overseeing a successful Major Gifts programme at Breaking Barriers. Major Gifts is an emerging and crucial income stream for Breaking Barriers’ growth and ability to achieve its ambitious 2030 goals. By 2030, Breaking Barriers will be supporting 4,000 refugees per year across the UK, up from 1,000 currently across Greater London, Birmingham and Greater Manchester (expanding to Glasgow and Liverpool in Autumn 2023).

Working closely with the Head of Development, CEO and other senior colleagues, the Head of Major Gifts will build on the foundations of an engaged Board of Trustees, extensive corporate partner network, emergent public fundraising function, and a growing community of engaged donors and volunteers, to build a community of committed major donors.

The Head of Major Gifts will be part of Breaking Barriers’ Senior Management group and will have overall strategic and budget responsibility for Major Gifts fundraising within the organisation. They will be a leader within the wider Fundraising team and contribute to a culture of creativity, growth, innovation and entrepreneurialism that will drive us to achieve our 2030 goals.

The Head of Major Gifts will be someone driven and excited by the opportunity to develop a long-term strategy and approach, and motivated to achieve ambitious income targets that match the ambition of our organisational goals. They will be an independent and strategic thinker, with the skills and experience to build a successful major gifts programme from scratch. They will be motivated to ensure that all people of refugee background in the UK have a fair chance to gain meaningful employment and will be ambitious to play a central role in helping Breaking Barriers achieve income of £14m p/a by 2030.
