The Head of Business Operations will work closely with the General Manager to manage the details and day-to-day operations of the business. It requires someone who is an expert in developing and deploying processes and systems to drive operational efficiencies, financial and business modeling, cross-functional communications, growth, and profitability. You’ll be based in our Warner Brothers Studio office in Burbank and report to the GM. The Head of Business Operations will lead by example in demonstrating core leadership values – integrity, empathy, curiosity, adaptability, accountability, and conviction.

From day one, the Head of Business Operations should have an immediate impact on the company’s productivity, streamlining strategic initiatives, overseeing program management, and communicating objectives between content, revenue, and finance departments. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in a business management role, with a special focus on executive-level advising in a high-growth media business. The Head of Business Operations will implement processes, navigate teams, and help create and execute overall corporate vision and will be required to work efficiently across Ellen Digital Ventures departments, The Ellen Show and with Warner Brothers to advance the priorities on the company’s agenda.

It will be the Head of Business Operations responsibility to be “another brain” to help the GM think through, navigate, and manage the rapid evolution of business needs. The Head of Business Operations will be an extension of the GM, and the main duties include managing any ad-hoc projects (which have no clear owner) on the GM’S behalf, “keeping the trains running on time”, conducting analyses on high-priority topics, running meetings and/or ensuring the executive team’s members are communicating with one another effectively.

Objectives of this Role

  • Oversee strategic business initiatives and processes from development through successful implementation + ongoing refinement
  • Manage the company’s P&L performance tracking against key KPIs including audience, revenue, and costs
  • Assist and communicate with the GM in decision-making, program management, and initiative implementation
  • Review, design, and execute on improvements to org structure, find knowledge and skills gaps and help address them
  • Improve current processes and coordinate organizational procedures for optimized efficiency and productivity
  • Key driver of company scale and profitability

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities

  • Serve as liaison between staff, executives, senior leaders, and GM, regarding project updates, proposals, analysis, and planning
  • Build and develop relationships with all employees for increased efficiency and effective responsiveness into existing operations, and help to define new operational strategies, working with GM and executives on special projects
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, handling inquiries and developing action plans to address them, and assisting with the preparation and dissemination of communications
  • Maximize profitability and organizational efficiency through direct management of the company’s administration, finances, operations, tech systems & key process development
  • In partnership with the finance team, oversee the company’s financial reporting, detailed cost management and all financial analysis, including financial modeling and forecasting
  • Support a Culture of Accountability where the organization structure as well as each employee’s role is crystal clear with measures of success directly tied to the company’s Annual & Quarterly objectives
  • Drive a Culture of Data from individual KPI tracking and reporting for every function in the organization to inform weekly departmental meetings, quarterly and annual planning processes
  • Partner with leadership team to model & forecast all growth-related initiatives (e.g., new program development, expansion into new markets, evergreen marketing & sales campaigns)

Direct Support of the GM

  • Helping set the company’s strategic priorities: Helping the GM identify the areas where they must direct their focus and identifying metrics for success, revisiting regularly, and evaluating progress
  • Monitoring information flow: sometimes acting as a gatekeeper, ensuring GM’s involvement in a project or decision-making process at the right moment

Project Management

  • Overseeing large, often cross-functional organization-wide projects or initiatives
  • Bring together multiple stakeholders to help drive quick and accurate decisions
  • Researching, benchmarking, analyzing data, and making recommendations
  • Creating systems and processes to streamline operations

Strategic Planning

  • Consulting with GM, Revenue and Finance leads on annual strategic planning for the company
  • Creating & updating dashboards for reviewing key performance indicators

Skills and Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration preferred
  • 7+ years in a business or executive management role
  • Highly proficient financial and business modeling skills
  • Proven experience organizing and directing multiple teams and departments
  • Excellent communicator in written and verbal form
  • Extremely versatile, dedicated to efficient productivity
  • Experience planning and leading strategic initiatives

  • Broad range of experience in operations, strategy, finance, organizational & project management, data analysis and digital marketing
  • Comfort navigating diversified P&L, Balance Sheet & Cashflow statements
  • Ability to explain how team members’ activities directly impact aspects of these reports
  • Bias for action, accuracy, and organization
  • Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Fantastic team player willing to roll up sleeves and do whatever necessary to ensure success
