We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Group Manager – LGBTQ Advisory Committee on our Marketing & Membership Experience team. As a Group Manager – LGBTQ Advisory Committee you will be responsible for the long-term success of the AMA’s LGBTGQ Advisory Committee and the AMA’s work around LGBTQ issues, and in that capacity works with the Director of Governance and Policy to: (1) manage Advisory Committee planning and governance functions, (2) plan and direct the activities of the Advisory Committee, and (3) serve as a center of expertise and point of contact for internal and external inquiries related to LGBTQ issues.  The LGBTQ Advisory Committee advises the AMA Board of Trustees and leads the AMA’s efforts on issues affecting LGBTQ physicians and patients.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Advisory Committee and Other Activities 

In collaboration with Director:

  • Facilitates planning and execution of LGBTQ Advisory Committee meetings, Annual/Interim meetings, and other events
  • Serves as the subject matter expert (SME) and primary point of contact within and outside the AMA for inquiries related to LGBTQ issues
  • Collaborates with product experts to help identify product and service gaps and to fulfill those needs and opportunities.
  • Assists with the development of customer profiles and guidelines for segment messaging; tests and implements programs and engagement opportunities
  • Facilitates communication between the AMA and members interested in LGBTQ issues
  • Interacts with the AMA Board of Trustees, AMA business units, and relevant external organizations
  • Identifies and contributes to the implementation of opportunities to grow AMA membership

Leadership and Relationship Management and Development 

In collaboration with Director:

  • Guides the LGBTQ Advisory Committee in the development and implementation of strategic plans aligned with department and AMA goals
  • Builds, manages and sustains professional relationships with LGBTQ Advisory Committee members and other leaders
  • Provides council to LGBTQ Advisory Committee members, advising them on and guiding them through relevant AMA policy, processes, and procedures
  • Identifies and facilitates implementation of leadership development opportunities for LGBTQ Advisory Committee members
  • Represents the needs of the Advisory Committee to management, elevating concerns as appropriate

May include other responsibilities as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline required
  2. Minimum 5 years of experience in leading, influencing and interacting with external stakeholders required; experience with managing physicians or other professionals preferred
  3. Excellent writing, editing, presentation, and communication skills, including demonstrated ability to write a diverse range of material, develop well thought-out policy positions, and edit material prepared by other required
  4. Excellent organization, prioritization, and management skills to handle a variety of multi-faceted projects in a fast-paced, high volume team environment, required
  5. Polished interpersonal, decision-making, and political skills to interface and communicate with all levels of leadership, staff, management, and build sustainable trusting relationships with members
  6. Travel (up to 10%) and extended hours, nights and weekends as business demands dictate, required
