Overview
Morning Brew is looking for a skilled graphic designer to support our editorial mission by creating engaging and narrative visual designs. You will be working closely with writers, editors, illustrators, product managers to bring Morning Brew brands to life through personality-rich visual experiences. You should think user-first, have a bold design perspective, and always look for the best approach to tell a story. You live and breathe design and want to try new things, while still keeping with the design principles of the brand. You thrive working in a fast-paced environment, work well with critical feedback, and understand media. This role sits in the Design team, within the Content org, and reports to the Art Director.
Here’s what you’ll be working on:
– Working within the design team to assist with the creation, conception, and execution of designs
– Ideating, concepting, and executing engaging and compelling social-first content.
– Experimenting with many types of visuals from photo illustration, photo editing, to data visualization and infographics.
– Producing thorough work that follows Morning Brew design guidelines
– Contributing new ideas for design treatments, planning, and strategy with the team
– Develop social templates for other designers and social managers.
– Give design feedback guidance to social managers.
– Establish best practices / workflows for social media content
What makes you qualified?
– 5+ years experience in graphic design, preferably for a media company
– Degree in graphic design or other related major or equivalent experience
– Strong portfolio demonstrating a body of professional visual problem-solving as well as a clear sense of your personal design voice
– Experience designing first class social-first content
– Demonstrated ability to make infographics that are effective and approachable
– Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced environment
– Strong conceptual drawing/sketching abilities.
– Strong working knowledge of industry tools: Figma, Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch, InDesign, Canva, Data Wrapper, and XD
– Strong verbal and written communication skills
– Ability to graciously receive tough feedback, while still managing expectations and championing good work
– Passion for social media, news, technology, and content in media landscape
– Excitement to learn, improve, and grow as a designer
