Full-Time Grants and Finance Specialist, Climate Resilience Practice

Job Description

This position will only be for consideration in the WRI US DC Global office and where WRI is US state registered. Existing work authorization is required at the time of application submission. WRI is unable to sponsor work authorization for this position.


About the Program: 

WRI’s Climate Resilience Practice (CRP), located in the Center for Equitable Development) seeks to incentivize and support actions that enhance resilience to the impacts of climate change – in a manner that promotes long-term sustainability and gender and social equity. We help countries integrate, or mainstream, adaptation into their development and sector planning (including budgeting) and implementation. We promote locally led adaptation so that decisions over how, when and where to adapt are led by communities and local actors. We also help countries understand whether, when and where transformative approaches to adaptation may be needed to better manage systemic climate risks, and how to begin financing, planning for and implementing them.

 

Job Highlight: 

You will be responsible for budget and operations for CRP’s adaptation finance team, including a $4 million US Department of State grant. Your specific duties will include: developing and updating budgets, tracking expenditures, preparing grant proposals and financial reports, drafting and monitoring contracts and subgrants, processing payments and expense reports, managing team meetings, and other tasks as assigned.

 

You will be working with a team of 4-5 researchers, a project manager, and an engagement specialist.

You will report to the Center for Equitable Development Operations Manager.

This position could be a hybrid model of remote and in-office (Washington, DC office) or fully remote. 

What you will do:

Financial Management (35% time)

  • Regularly review, update, and monitor all transactions, invoices, commitments, and revenue prospects for all team projects
  • Coordinate and advise project managers on budget management, including use of advanced budgeting software, monthly financial tracking, and supporting Project Managers in expense forecasting and revenue analysis
  • Follows WRI’s internal processes and deadlines related to funding, including quarterly reviews, monthly & annual closeouts, and future fiscal year annual budget submission

Grant Management (25% time)

  • Ensure team compliance with terms and conditions of complex US government grant agreement
  • Lead financial reporting to US State Department and advise subawardees on financial reporting
  • Draft grant proposal budgets and assist in the collection and submission of formal proposals for team fundraising efforts

Subaward Management (25% time)

  • Process contracts, procurement documents, work orders, and other formal documentation for project commitments
  • Prepare sub grant and contract agreements and advise Project Managers in working with partners and contractors to ensure agreements are completed on time, including the timely and accurate submission of progress and financial reports
  • Liaise between WRI’s Grants & Contracts team, the project team, and external partners to problem solve

Administration & Events Management (10% time)

  • Coordinate and schedule team meetings and assists in coordination of team’s planning processes
  • Coordinate recruitment and manage onboarding of new staff members and interns, as needed
  • Coordinate conference, webinars, and event logistics for domestic and international meetings and workshops, including venue, catering, equipment, translators, travel, per diem and visa support for WRI staff and event participants

 

What you will need:

Education: You have a completed bachelor’s degree

Experience:  You have a minimum of 1+ year of full-time relevant work experience in operations, program coordination, or administration

Experience working in Microsoft Excel

Experience managing budgets, preparing donor reports, especially to US government agencies, and/or processing subcontracts preferred

Languages: English

Requirements: Existing work authorization is required where this position is based. WRI is unable to authorize visa work authorization.


Potential Salary:

$46,000 – $60,000; Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors. WRI offers a competitive remuneration and benefits package.
