Full-Time GLOBAL ADVISOR- GENDER, EQUITY, DIVERSITY, AND INCLUSION

ABOUT THIS ROLE

The Global Advisor for Gender, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (GEDI) will help shape the action that Water For People takes to embed principles of justice, equity, diversity, and social inclusion more deeply and consistently in our WASH work and our organization. In this role will provide thought leadership, strategic advice, and support to embed gender equity and social inclusion across our portfolio. You will also support country program teams in high-quality program design, ensuring gender and social inclusion approaches are firmly rooted to advance equity and inclusion outcomes. They will focus on providing expert technical guidance across the organization, by transferring knowledge and building skills in ways that fortify the capacity of their colleagues and facilitating learning and information sharing on gender equity and social inclusion to ensure learning and best practices are captured and shared.

 

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL

Technical and Strategic Support to Country Programs (50%)

  • Provide technical support and guidance to Country Program colleagues on GEDI in WASH, with particular attention on hygiene promotion and behavior change and ensure that GEDI is included in our program implementation.
  • Develop Country Program staff skill in integrating GEDI in WASH programming and position Water For People as a leading organization for inclusive WASH programming.
  • Provide technical guidance for ensuring that principles of GEDI are included into organization-wide growth resources and plans, including strategy, promoting local partners and networks, and strengthening donor relations.
  • Participate in relevant Equity and Inclusion communities of practice and share learnings from those communities with Country Program colleagues and across the organization.
  • Identify internal best practices on Water For People’s GEDI approaches, support the documentation of case studies and identify opportunities for scale up, replication in other contexts and rigorous measurement of impact.
  • Work with the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning team to ensure that gender and social inclusion are integrated in the Destination 2030 Results Framework and country-based monitoring.
  • Support the advancement of key learning questions, knowledge management and documentation of learnings around gender and social inclusion.
  • Support Country Program teams to ensure budgets and staffing plans are gender-sensitive and reflective of gender and social inclusion commitments taken at organizational, regional, and country levels. Ensure teams are set up to succeed with evolving donor requirements around gender, equity, and inclusion.
  • Mentor global, regional, and country equity and inclusion champions.

Revenue Generation and Donor Impact Support (30%)

  • Partner with the Strategic Communications and Donor Engagement teams to ensure internal and external communications, donor communications and engagement reflect our GEDI commitments.
  • Partner with Major Gifts and Grants teams to support fundraising for GEDI-related priorities and programming, and to ensure new programs being pitched are inclusive of this priority.

Talent Team and Organizational Support (20%)

  • Play a supporting role in collaborating with the Water For People Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (Justice Equity Diversity Inclusion) initiative and bridging the operational-programmatic nexus.
  • Contribute to the recruitment process to ensure that JEDI principles are reflective in our practices, by ensuring that everyone in the organization orients towards JEDI, and job descriptions and recruitment processes are inclusive and promote equity and diversity.
  • Contribute to developing and rolling out JEDI training for team members in the organization.
  • Participate on the Water For People Transformation Committee.
  • Advise on annual JEDI survey, metrics, and reporting and identify best practices and emerging trends in JEDI, as well as areas or opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist in evaluating diversity and inclusion challenges in each of the countries where we operate including, but not limited to, diversity factors in each country (i.e. tribalism, religion, colorism) and cultural challenges to inclusion and evaluate where we have significant underrepresentation in Water For People based upon country demographics.
  • Represent Water For People as an active participant of the Coalition for Racial and Ethnic Equity and Development (CREED) committee.

 

YOU WILL EXCEL IN THIS ROLE IF YOU HAVE

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a gender, social sciences, public health or related field.
  • At least two years of experience in gender technical advisory including demonstrated experience in at least one of the following:
    • women’s economic empowerment and inclusion, including food security, market systems development, or labor.
    • gender and social inclusion in climate change, WASH, water security and resilience building efforts.
  • At least two years’ experience working in countries where programs are located and working directly with implementing teams, advising projects on GEDI technical aspects and budgeting.
  • Experience providing technical coaching and mentorship to colleagues.
  • Proposal design and program development experience.
  • Oral and written English fluency required.
  • Ability to write, compile and/or edit academic journal-quality documents.
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, proficient in Word and advanced in Excel.
  • Experience in a multi-cultural setting.

 

BONUS POINTS IF YOU HAVE

  • Spanish fluency.
  • Experience in relationship management, with internal/external partners and institutional donors.

MORE ABOUT THIS ROLE

  • This position has the option to work from an office or remotely in one of the following countries where Water For People is present: Bolivia, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Malawi, Peru, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, the United Kingdom, or the United States.
  • Water For People will seek candidates from the countries listed above and any state in the US except for: NY, NJ, WA, VT, and CA. You must be a citizen or legally authorized to work in the country you live in.
  • Ability to work outside regular business hours to meet with team members located in other time zones.
  • Open office environment if choosing to work from the Denver Office
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally 15% of time to low- and middle-income countries, where travel is rugged.

Salary Range:

Anticipated salary range: $75,000 – $85,000 for US candidates only. (If based outside the US an equivalent country market – based salary will be determined)

 

Actual salary will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors.
