The Youth Advice Centre (YAC) Brighton provides advice, support and guidance to young people in Brighton and Hove. Our aim is to provide young people in the local area with a safe and friendly environment where they can access helpful advice and support. We are the first place to go for housing advice for anyone under 26 years old who is homeless or threatened with homelessness. We also offer a family support and mediation service and a support and advice service providing sexual health advice and services, emotional and wellbeing support and benefits and money advice. We have recently opened the Food Market, where anyone aged 16-25, living in the Brighton and Hove area can pay a small weekly membership fee, and in return have access to fresh, local produce and stock cupboard items. The aim is to ensure that everyone has access to the same food regardless of their situation, functioning on the understanding that some in our community might need more support than others.
As Food Market Coordinator, you will actively engage and educate young people using the Food Market and increase its reach. You will deliver information about YAC Food Market, promoting the service and expanding youth engagement, and will liaise with other partner agencies to promote the Food Market service. You will assist with the collection of resources and the coordination of the Food Market service and ensure that adequate records, health and safety and monitoring for Food Market are maintained.
This role is based on site at the Youth Advice Centre (YAC) Brighton – the shift pattern will be on set days and can be discussed at interview.
We are also recruiting for a Receptionist (7.5 hours per week) and welcome joint applications for interest in both roles. Please do let us know if you would like to be considered for both roles on your application.
ABOUT YOU – We know that there are great candidates who will not fit everything described, or who have important skills we have not mentioned. If that is you, please do not hesitate to apply and tell us about yourself
You will be compassionate and determined to help support the lives of young people. You will already have strong knowledge of local youth support services and issues facing young people, especially those who are socially excluded or from marginalised hard to reach groups. You will have proven experience of working with young people aged 13-25, along with safeguarding children and young people and have the ability to work in a trauma informed way. You will be a strong team player who can support and challenge colleagues appropriately, work independently and manage their workload effectively. In addition, you will be able to promote service delivery and advocate for young people with other agencies to build participation. You will have the desire to achieve further training in Food Safety and Youth Engagement. The ideal candidate will also hold a current driving licence and have a car.
