Full-Time Fleet and Equipment Technician

Job Description

This is a semi-skilled position, involving the maintenance of automobiles, light and heavy duty trucks, and off road machinery. Work involves performing semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance of gasoline, diesel, small engine and hydraulic powered equipment. Work is performed under general supervision allowing opportunity for independent judgment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
• Perform preventative maintenance to equipment, including, but not limited to, automobiles, trucks, trailers, tractors, end loaders, excavators, motor graders, etc. 40%
• Perform maintenance and repairs to small engine driven tools and equipment. 10%
• Perform minor repairs to brakes, air conditioning systems, electrical, fuel, ignition, air, exhaust, axle assemblies, clutches, and related systems. 10%
• Responsible for keeping shop areas and equipment in a safe and orderly fashion. 10%
• Perform facility maintenance duties as assigned. 10%
• Help mechanics as needed. 5%
• Operate a variety of hand, electric and air driven tools provided by Central Garage. 5%
• Pick up parts as time permits. 5%
• Perform other duties as assigned. 5%

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
• Graduate from an accredited technical college in Automotive, Diesel or Heavy Equipment Mechanics.
• One (1) year of experience with progressively advanced training working on automobiles, diesel engines or heavy equipment in lieu of a degree.
• Knowledge in the use of test equipment for electronic engines, transmissions, etc.
• Possess a Wisconsin CDL, Class A with N endorsement and no air brake restrictions, or have the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
• Possess Air Brake and Preventative Maintenance ASE certification, or have the ability to obtain within one year of hire.
• Possess Automotive Air Conditioning certification, or have the ability to obtain within one year of hire.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, methods, and practices used in a variety of maintenance operations on machinery and mechanical equipment.
• Knowledge of the mechanical principles by which machines, equipment and tools operate, and in the maintenance of equipment.
• Knowledge of brake, engine, electrical, fuel, transmission, ignition, air, exhaust, axle assemblies, small engine powered equipment and related systems.
• Understanding of preventative maintenance philosophies and maintenance programs.
• Knowledge of the occupational hazards encountered with the trade.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, outside in various weather conditions, exposed to wet, cold, hot and humid conditions. Safety equipment will be supplied when employee is exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, or flying debris. The noise level in the work area is moderately noisy.
