60% – Coordinate the KU Fit Program including:
- Plan and implement semester schedules with approximately 40 classes per week including a variety of in person and virtual classes such as strength, dance fitness, fitness boxing, cycling, yoga, etc.
- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise, payroll, evaluate and document approximately 15 KU Fit instructors.
- Oversee daily operations of the KU Fit program, including sign ups, optional fees, attendance records and equipment/facility upkeep, program assessment and policies and procedures that ensure safe instruction and risk management.
- Provide continuing education for staff to enhance skills and obtain/maintain appropriate certifications through one-on-one skill building and /or workshops.
- Supervise a KU Fit student Program Manager.
- Recruit, plan, and implement the ACE Group Fitness Instructor Prep Course, an in-house group exercise training class.
- Prepare monthly, semester, and yearly reports on classes and make recommendations as necessary.
- Oversee and implement protocol for the KU Fit and specialty programs such as FIT45 (boot camp) including administration in Fusion (access, point of sale and programming software).
- Purchase and inventory equipment for KU Fit classes.
- Ensure that all employees have achieved and/or maintain appropriate levels of training and certification including CPR/AED, Concussion, and Conceal and Carry.
- Plan and implement specialty classes such as Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP) Yoga, belly dancing, etc.
- Assist the Marketing Coordinator in promoting overall class participation.
- Plan and host fitness certifications and workshops (CEU opportunities).
- Research industry trends and assess new and current programming to compile a diverse array of offerings to best meet patron needs.
20% – Develop and manage incentive programs and special events within fitness/wellness.
- Design educational workshops and programs such as fun runs, virtual triathlons, etc. that provide participants with the opportunity to expand their knowledge, comfort level and ability in fitness/wellness related endeavors.
- Coordinate with student organizations and other KU community requests for private group fitness classes at ASRFC and on-campus.
- Collaborate and assist marketing in providing fitness/wellness social media and outreach such as healthy recipes, fitness/wellness tips and resources.
10% – Assist with the development and management of the fitness budget.
5% – Facilitate and coordinate with other units the development and implementation of the faculty and staff wellness committee and University-wide wellness initiatives.
- Coordinate the annual Faculty and Staff Wellness Fair including sponsorships and purchasing giveaways.
- Facilitate and promote events such as Lunch N’ Learn sessions.
- Facilitate committee meetings.
5% – Other including, but not limited to:
- Assist the Assistant Director Fitness/Wellness, as needed with personal training, ACE Personal Training Prep Course, fitness assessments (FIT4U).
- Develop a collaborative relationship with other departments across campus and participate on University committees to meet the goals of the Chancellor’s Strategic Initiatives as assigned.
- Instruct CPR/AED trainings on a rotational basis.
- Assist with other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
- The person in this position is responsible for knowledge of and compliance with Board of Regents, University policies and NCAA rules and regulations regarding day-to-day job-related activities applicable to the position that could involve contact with student athletes.
- Standard 40 hours Monday through Friday with some flexibility. May require some morning, evening, or weekend work. Must be on site to direct work of student staff.
- This position has been identified as a Campus Safety Authority. (Most positions are identified as Mandatory Reporters.)
- CPR/AED training is required and must be completed 1 months from the start of employment. If currently not certified, it will be provided free of charge.
- This position will be a hybrid of on-site work and telework as deemed by supervisor
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor degree from an accredited institution (must have graduated by employment start date).
- Minimum of 1 year professional work experience in fitness management; 2 years as a graduate assistant equals 1 year work experience (must have graduated by employment start date).
- Previous experience as a group exercise instructor.
- Certification in group exercise from NCCA accredited organization such as ACE, ACSM, AFAA, NETA or similar, or must be completed within 6 months of hire.
