The Organisation
The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) is seeking a talented person to join them as Financial Controller to contribute to the achievement of AAT’s business plan objectives and to advance the efficiency and effectiveness of the organisation.

The Role
This is a great time to join AAT, and to be a critical part of the evolution of its finance team.
Reporting into the Finance Director, the Financial Controller will contribute to the achievement of AAT’s business plan objectives and to advance the efficiency and effectiveness of the organisation by:
- Developing AAT’s financial accounting and controls function to ensure proactive.
- Management of all key statutory and fiduciary responsibilities and maximise the value of AAT assets.
- Managing the year-end finance process for AAT and subsidiary bodies, including delivery of the year-end financial accounts and annual report.
- Managing the annual audit.
- Co-ordinating the delivery of accurate, timely and relevant group month-end accounts.
- Supporting the Finance Business Partnering Manager to produce financial reports and business analysis.
- Supporting AAT’s investment strategy.
- Supporting the implementation of the new Finance system (MS D365).
Key Facts:
Full-time, permanent role
Salary: £75,000-£80,000 per annum + great benefits which include up to 10.15% employer pension contribution, enhanced holiday pay, critical illness etc.
Hybrid: typically 3 days home-working, blended with 2 days per week in AAT’s office in Canary Wharf, London.
The Successful Candidate will be a Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent), and have experience in:
- Working in a similar role for a charity/professional membership and training organisation.
- People management experience.
- Applying their technical accounting knowledge, including current accounting standards for companies/charities (FRS 102/ Charities SORP).
- Driving, and embedding, process change throughout a finance team.
- Financial management experience, including sales and purchase ledger, credit control, treasury and month end.
- Preparing/reviewing VAT and CT returns, inc. partial exemption.
- Managing the financial audit process and co-ordinating/preparing annual reports and statutory accounts.
- Ideally, has dealt with deferred income and product reporting, and went through a process of implementing a new financial accounting software (e.g. Microsoft Dynamics 365).
