JOB SUMMARY

The Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut is looking for a Financial & Business Operations Specialist 1. The position is based in the Business & Grant Services Center at the UConn Storrs campus.

Under the general direction of the Business and Grants Services Director, this position is responsible for providing a broad range of financial and budgeting services. The successful candidate will have outstanding organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties may include but not be limited to:

  • Serving as a fiscal officer for assigned departments within the School of Education.
  • Preparing and monitoring budgets for an assigned unit.
  • Approving and verifying financial transactions for accuracy and compliance within approved budget limits and University policies.
  • Processing financial transactions such as invoices, requisitions, travel reimbursements, deposits, personal service agreements, and other disbursements.
  • Placing orders with vendors and following up to resolve problems and assure timely delivery.
  • Research, analyze, and prepare reports, presentations, correspondence, and other relevant data for various uses.
  • Interface with department faculty and administrative staff to answer questions regarding University systems, fiscal matters, policies, and procedures.
  • Ad hoc financial reports and account reconciliations.
  • Processing payroll transactions and other financial documents.
  • Provide backup support for other Business & Grant Services staff.
  • May participate as a representative on University wide committees and projects.
  • Other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Two to three years of related experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of budget development and monitoring.
  • Exceptional skills in accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with individuals of diverse cultural, social, and educational backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing organizational support in a team environment.
  • Clear, positive, and professional written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in business or a related field.
  • Four to five years of related experience.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Ability to interpret complex records, assemble, and organize data from a variety of sources, and prepare related reports. Experience working with UConn administrative systems including KFS (Kuali Financial Systems), Huskybuy, Core-CT, Concur, or similar.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting.
  • Experience with financial, purchasing, and grant processing and reporting systems.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time permanent position in a flexible work environment. Telecommuting and/or a hybrid work schedule may be possible subject to authorization and University policy. The position has a one-year probationary period and an anticipated start date in August 2023. Salary is commensurate with experience and includes full and comprehensive benefits. Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA).
