Job Opening: Finance Manager
The Savanna Institute invites applications for a Finance Manager to oversee the financial operations of our organization. This role will manage the majority of the organization’s financial operations and accounting practices, including oversight of accounts payable and receivable, program budgeting, payroll allocations, and the preparation and presentation of financial reports.

The Savanna Institute is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Madison, WI and Urbana, IL. Established in 2013, we work in collaboration with farmers, businesses, and scientists to lay the groundwork for widespread agroforestry in the Midwest US. Job Description
Hours: full-time
Location: remote
Start Date: November 4, 2024
Salary: $70,000-75,000/year
- This position is eligible for the Institute’s benefits package. Benefits for full-time employees include 20 days of paid time off annually plus 11 civic holidays, 12 weeks of parental/disability leave annually, a dependent care flex spending account, a 401(k) retirement savings plan, reimbursement of healthcare costs (including ACA marketplace premiums) via an HRA plan, and a monthly home office stipend
- This position reports to the Director of Administration
Duties/Responsibilities
- Maintain and develop financial tools, policies, and procedures for Savanna Institute
- Keep and update calendar of all major financial deadlines
- Oversee timely completion of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
- Manage cash account balance needs for basic operational expenditures
- Review and update payroll allocations with department/program officers quarterly
- Supervise bookkeeper’s work, including review of monthly cash reconciliations
- Review general ledger monthly
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly and quarterly
- Manage financial requirements of contract relationships
- Oversee annual workers’ comp audit and annual financial audit
- Act as the contact point for questions on expenses and reimbursements
Required Qualifications
- Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
- CPA certification
- 3-5 years experience in financial management for a non-profit with grant and government funding
- Thorough attention to detail
- Experience managing a finance team
- Analytical thinker with strong conceptual and problem-solving skills
- Ability to translate large quantities of complex data into digestible and actionable information for a variety of stakeholders
