Job Description

Location and Working Hours: 100% Remote. You must be located in the U.S. and willing to work in the time zones of the continental US. While the work hours are flexible, you must be able to generally work on weekdays (Monday through Friday) during regular business hours Pacific Time Zone (PT).

Job Type: Full-Time, Regular

Salary Range: $130,000-$150,000, DOE, if based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Otherwise, adjusted for geographic location.

Finance Director Position Summary

The Finance Director will oversee Bicycle Accounting’s clients’ accounting activities and provide forward-looking financial guidance to our nonprofit clients. The ideal candidate will be an expert in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis, with experience in representing clients at board meetings and advising them on how to interpret and act on financial data. They will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial statements and reports, supporting the day-to-day accounting operations, and thinking about how to improve our firm’s efficiency in delivering high-quality services to our clients. The Finance Director will report to the CEO and work closely with our team of bookkeepers, accountants, and administrative staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts, and financial models to support strategic decision-making by clients
  • Present financial information and analysis to clients at board meetings and other forums, and provide expert advice on financial matters
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure the efficient operation of clients’ accounting and financial systems
  • Support and encourage staff members responsible for accounting and bookkeeping tasks
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of clients’ accounting systems and processes, and recommend improvements as needed
  • Foster a culture of kindness, collaboration, and anti-racism in the workplace, and support the personal and professional growth of team members
  • Other duties as assigned by the CEO

Required Skills and Experience

  • At least seven (7) years of experience in accounting, finance, or related field, with a proven track record of success in managing accounting and financial operations for nonprofit organizations.
  • Expert knowledge of accounting principles and practices, financial analysis and reporting, and budgeting and forecasting techniques.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team of accounting and finance professionals.
  • Knowledge of accounting software and systems, including QuickBooks, Bill, and other cloud-based platforms.
  • Commitment to kindness, collaboration, anti-racism, and excellence in all aspects of work.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
