Temporary Finance Associate
Job Description
Finance Associate
Ryder for New York, the campaign to elect Ryder Kessler to New York State Assembly in the 66th District (Greenwich Village, Soho, Noho, and Tribeca), seeks a Finance Associate to support fundraising efforts for the campaign between now and the primary on June 28, 2022.
About Ryder
Ryder Kessler is a lifelong downtown Manhattanite, community leader, and gay man. He was the founding CEO of DipJar, a start-up whose technology has helped low-wage service workers and nonprofits collect tens of millions of dollars in new credit card tips and donations. Since 2016, he has worked in Democratic politics, on campaigns to take back the House, Senate, and White House, with a focus on voting rights. He is a member of Community Board 2 in Manhattan, where he has advocated for vibrant, equitable, sustainable neighborhoods.
About You
Our Finance Associate should be someone passionate about fighting for bold progressive action in the Assembly, so New York finally takes robust steps to make housing more affordable, integrate our neighborhoods and schools, end mass incarceration and over-policing of marginalized communities, improve access to elections, and much more.
Ideally, a candidate will have most of the following:
- At least one cycle on a progressive political campaign, ideally in finance/fundraising
- Familiarity with VAN/NGP and other basic tools used for voter and donor identification
- Experience with tools for donor prospecting, outreach, and tracking (e.g. calltime.ai)
- The ability to learn and move quickly in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills; a warm attitude; and passion for bold political action
Key Responsibilities
Managing Call Time: A critical component of fundraising for this campaign is reaching out to likely donors from the community — longtime residents of downtown Manhattan, individuals representing the changing demographics of the district, and those interested in seeing more progressive change in Albany. The Finance Associate will manage the candidate’s call time as a central component of the job, helping optimize call lists, guide follow-up, and track results.
Supporting Fundraising Events: Another source of donations and voter outreach will be through in-person and virtual events. The Finance Associate will support the Campaign Manager in overseeing the initial coordination and final execution of this series of events, helping to coordinate with hosts on the logistics of events, the delivery of invitations, the tracking of attendees, the successful execution of the event itself, the solicitation and collection of donations, and donor follow-up afterwards.
Grassroots Donor Support: Donor relationships will also be supported for those who contribute in response to campaign emails, social media posts, paid ads, and other sources.
General Campaign Support: The Finance Associate may also be asked to provide general capacity around organizing, communications, digital outreach, paid advertising, principal and campaign manager support, and more.
Logistics
- Salary: $3,500 – $4,000 per month
- Term: March – June
- The Finance Associate will report to the Campaign Manager
- Team is working together in Manhattan, but periodic remote work is amenable
More about Ryder for New York
New York is the greatest city in the world, but we are facing extreme challenges—and we need bold new leadership to take them on. We’re emerging from a once-in-a-century pandemic, facing an existential climate emergency, and continuing to suffer from segregation in housing, schools, and the justice system.
Here in downtown Manhattan, struggling small businesses and vacant storefronts reduce the energy of our streets—but elected officials rail against outdoor dining that has been a pandemic lifeline to residents and service employees. Lack of sufficient protected bike lanes and dedicated busways makes transit usage less efficient and our streets less safe and less sustainable. Piles of trash on the streets serve as a haven for rats.
New York should be a beacon of progressive values—equity, sustainability, affordability, and democracy—but we’re not living up to our potential. This campaign is about changing that.
