Salary: $75,000 – $95,000 annually DOE/DOQ
The North American Blueberry Council (NABC) and the U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council (USHBC) seek a Finance and Compliance Manager (Manager) to fill this newly created position. As an expanding organization that is continuing to grow its programs, services and capabilities, NABC/USHBC is looking for additional staff to support its upcoming initiatives. Working alongside the Financial Controller, the Manager will assist in all areas of recordkeeping, compliance and collections. The successful candidate will be highly organized and attentive to detail, as much of this role involves distributing collection notices; assisting with assessments, refunds and rebate requests; gathering receipts; monitoring sponsorships; and helping the Finance Controller stay organized. The Manager may take on database management to produce reports and support bookkeeping, accounts payable and accounts receivable. This role offers the opportunity to grow with the organization and work independently, while also following direction as needed. Someone with a background in association management and/or agriculture will likely find the learning curve of this position quite manageable. Strong candidates will have a background in accounting, bookkeeping, accounts payable/receivable or business finance. The Manager will connect with growers and key stakeholders in the blueberry industry, making communication and interpersonal skills very important. THE JOB
The Finance and Compliance Manager will support the Financial Controller in overseeing compliance among blueberry growers. Ideally, they will have a background or deep understanding of association management and/or agricultural industry. This on-site position involves various strategies to enforce compliance, such as making phone calls and written communications, so strong verbal and writing skills are highly desirable. The Manager will monitor all payment collections, recommend areas for improvement and track member dues to ensure they are compliant. They could oversee other accounting and finance tasks, including oversight of accounts payable and receivable, and they should be familiar with job-specific technology such as Impexium. The Manager will be responsible for creating a system that will track and support compliance and other internal controls, and maintain and document payments, correspondence and notes. They will implement effective processes and assist the Financial Controller with other support as needed. Other aspects of this role include monitoring sponsorships, overseeing credit card compliance, and managing communications with members and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate is highly organized and attentive to detail. One major function of this job is to keep the Finance Department organized, which means candidates need to create and follow streamlined processes and systems. The next Manager will be assertive yet personable, and self-motivated yet attentive to directions. They will understand the importance of taking initiative and be eager to grow in their role with the organization. Being able to form connections within the organization and industry is paramount in helping the department gather funds and applicable forms from growers and sponsors. Ideal candidates will be comfortable with all modes of communication (via phone, email, letter); demonstrate emotional intelligence, kindness, directness and honesty; be excellent coordinators and collaborators; and be able to think outside of the box and offer new perspectives.
Minimum Qualifications
- Possession of a college degree, ideally in business (accounting, finance, management), economics, math or statistics.
Desired
- Agribusiness-related work experience.
- Experience working with trade associations or governmental organizations.
- Experience in accounting, bookkeeping and financial compliance.
Salary and Benefits
The annual salary range is $75,000-$95,000 with a generous benefits package; salary will be negotiated depending upon qualifications and experience.
