Full-Time Field Services Technical Engineer – Louisiana

WHEN NOT IN THE OFFICE (CARENCRO, LA) THIS POSITION WILL BE IN THE FIELD TRAVELING TO SITE LOCATIONS

Newpark Industrial Solution’s Technical Service group is seeking a qualified Engineer for a multi-functional role encompassing field technical support, product use training, on-site repair assistance, customer technical interface and product modification design ideation. This key visible role will impact customer satisfaction and operational support while enhancing applications engineering, generating ideas for new applications thus helping increase our revenue and strengthen the brand.

The position requires interacting with field professionals, manufacturing, sales, customers, and R&D staff. This position requires flexibility to travel about 40% of the time within USA. Travel could consist of week-long travel. You will be given all required product, safety and functional training.

Essential Functions

  • Evaluate project details and recommend changes for safe and efficient product usage
  • Site evaluations and product layout designs
  • Provide mechanical & civil design input
  • Provide electrical input for safe operational designs
  • Product quality evaluation
  • Failure mode analysis, root cause investigation, and preventative action
  • Drone surveys when needed. Able to obtain drone flying license sponsored by Newpark
  • Customer presentations
  • Provide technical assistance in field applications to internal operations and sales team, as well as existing and potential customers.
  • Product use training – both on-site and remote
  • Field testing and implementation of new products, applications, and technology
  • Document and respond to technical customer queries
  • Pre-project planning, assistance in project execution, post project reporting
  • Report with recommendations on appropriate designs, materials, and techniques
  • Create or assist in publishing engineering bulletins, technical reports, and use case studies for internal and external circulation
  • Assist in engineering and technical input for Product Improvement efforts, New Product Development projects, and R&D efforts.
  • Mechanical, civil, and electrical design and/or prototype testing
  • Measures and analyzes product and process performance
  • Report based on sound statistical analysis
  • Use of CAD to create models
  • Assessment of Market Trends, Competing Products, and New Opportunities.
  • Any other duties or special projects in the technical arena to address changing business needs.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of general engineering principals, concepts, theories, and practices.
  • Ability to do basic engineering calculations and setup equations and models.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Ability to setup macros in Excel. Familiarity or an ability to learn additional coding language such as Python, analytics software such as Power BI and MINITAB and engineering design software such as CAD.
  • Basic statistics knowledge.
  • Ability to use basic construction industry power tools and other small mechanical machine shop tools.
  • Ability to learn and use a wheeled loader to move small-medium size equipment.
  • Bilingual – Fluency in English. Working knowledge of Spanish, desirable but not necessary.
  • Good customer facing communication skills.
  • Critical thinking and basic problem-solving skills. Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced familiarity of Microsoft Powerpoint.
  • Proficient in information searching over internet.
  • Basic project and time management skills.
  • Strong teamwork aptitude.
  • Strong interest and aptitude to learn new skills.
  • Ability to work independently and travel within USA.
  • Safe driver.
  • Basic familiarity of 6-Sigma, LEAN and time & motion study principles.
  • Ability to learn use of Drones.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or educational equivalent.
  • Masters Degree preferred but not required
  • Previous role as a Field Service Engineer preferred, but not required
  • 1 year experience
  • Basic application of analytical skills
  • Intermediate verbal and written communication skills
  • Intermediate problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of general principles, concepts, theories, and practices of applicable discipline

Additional Details

  • Generous PTO
  • Benefits eligible day 1 of employment
  • 401(k) employee contribution plus employer match
  • Annual Compensation range $85,000-$105,000K
  • Will require 40% of travel within USA, could consists of week-long travel as times
  • Could experience minimal Int’l travel (1-2 times each year)
  • All expenses covered while traveling (transportation, lodging, meals)
