The Humane League (THL) is a global nonprofit ending the abuse of animals raised for food. YOUR OPPORTUNITY

As the Field Organizer, you will work with people and groups across multiple states, and inspire volunteers to take on leadership roles for THL’s campaign initiatives. You are a dynamic, values-focused person who is ready to motivate others, foster long-term relationships, and train activists in effective grassroots animal advocacy and corporate campaigning.

We want you because you are dedicated to ending the abuse of animals raised for food and are ready to mobilize people to hold corporations accountable—influencing the world’s biggest companies to create and implement animal welfare policies that abolish the worst forms of abuse and reduce the suffering of billions of animals.

You are ideal for this position because you have the ability to be creative and pragmatic, and are able to shift focus on short notice. You are outgoing and charismatic, and your desire to network with people from a variety of backgrounds guides to meaningful connections. You are comfortable talking to people with differing opinions and can maintain a high level of professionalism under pressure. You are excited to build power by developing volunteer leaders to execute campaign tactics across your city/region and are eager to solicit and provide feedback to constantly improve our effectiveness. You are comfortable speaking to large crowds, and in the media (tv, radio, newspaper, etc.). You possess excellent team-building skills and are motivated to overcome obstacles to expand our reach for animals. This position reports directly to the Regional Organizing Manager.

This is a full-time, remote, US based position. This position requires occasional domestic travel, equivalent to approximately 2-4 trips per year. Preferred (but not required) to live in ID, MT, WY, CO, ND, SD, NE, KS, OK, MN, IA, MO, AR, WI. We are only able to consider applicants who possess United States work authorization.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Proactively identify, recruit, and guide people from across your city/region to join THL’s expanding community of supporters. Grow our network and re-energize our existing network.
  • Train, motivate, and retain volunteers to take on leadership roles for THL and to execute a variety of actions and events to further our campaign efforts and overall mission to end the abuse of animals for food.
  • Efficiently manage volunteer tracking tools to keep meticulous records of volunteer activity and progression within THL’s changemaker circle.
  • Act as the face of THL to people (including donors identified by Development), local media, and community groups, including speaking at events, in webinars, and on video conference calls.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Experience in grassroots advocacy, volunteer management, or the animal rights movement.
  • Mission-aligned: Solid dedication THL’s philosophy and approach, comfort engaging in pressure campaigns.
  • Leadership: Ability and excitement to effectively guide, motivate, empower, and engage various target audiences. Because the movement is comprised of people from a wide range of backgrounds, the ability to navigate issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion and bring a deep sincerity to advancing these values.
  • Problem-solving: Forward-looking thinker who anticipates needs, actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions with excellent decision-making capability. Must be self-directed and able to plan and coordinate many projects simultaneously.
  • Communication: Ability to write and speak clearly and effectively, and to interact with all staff, donors, volunteers and the public in a positive, professional and outgoing manner.
  • Teamwork: The successful candidate must be creative and enjoy working within an entrepreneurial environment that is mission-motivated, results-focused and community-oriented. The ideal person is a highly resourceful team-player who works effectively with all levels of staff, with the ability to also be extremely effective objectively, and displays dedication to the work and role.
  • Organization: Solid attention to detail and the ability to thrive with minimal direct supervision in a remote workplace with time-sensitive administrative tasks.
  • Technology: Highly proficient in using contemporary office software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and supporter databases. Demonstrated ability to learn new software quickly and objectively.
  • Flexibility: Willing to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends.

Starting salary $46,200 or salary to commensurate with experience.
