Full-Time Field Manager
Job Description
Greetings,
California BLM is recruiting for the permanent Field Manager position in the beautiful Bishop Field Office (BFO).
The BFO encompasses more than 750,000 acres of public land, located primarily in Inyo and Mono counties, between the spectacular peaks of the eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains and the Inyo and White Mountains. The field office boundary stretches 200 miles along the California-Nevada State Line with a landscape dominated by high desert shrub systems and world-class views. Recreation and range are primary uses, along with wildlife, minerals and geothermal.
The BFO manages the Alabama Hills, which is the BLM’s only National Scenic Area. The area boasts a rich film history, drawing outdoor enthusiasts for bouldering and rock climbing, hiking, motor touring and camping. Additionally, the BFO manages two wilderness areas, five developed campgrounds, two OHV areas, numerous trails and a recreational hot springs area. Along with neighboring Death Valley National Park and the Humboldt-Toiyabe and Inyo National Forests, BLM-managed lands contain a wide range of geologic features, climatic conditions, vegetation communities and unique wildlife species including the rare Greater Sage-Grouse and endangered Sierra Nevada Bighorn Sheep.
The Bishop community embraces its motto as a “Small Town with a Big Backyard”. Tourism is a main industry for visitors to nearby Mammoth Ski Resort, Mono Lake, John Muir Wilderness, Mount Whitney and other recreation areas. Numerous events and festivals contribute to a strong sense of local community. The BFO has established strong partnerships with several local towns, organizations, agencies and tribes that contribute to the stewardship of this special region.
