POSITION:             Field Sales Engineer
REPORTS TO:        Field Engineering Manager
DIVISION:              Global Tools & Storage
LOCATION:           Home Office, AB

The What
The Field Sales Engineer is responsible for generating new business and ensuring growth of existing accounts through the attainment of specification of company products and technical support for DEWALT products in the territory.

The How

  • Develop a strong technical understanding of Powers products and how they are used in construction and how they are designed in accordance with current building codes 
  • Establish relationship with key specifying firms in the territory.  
  • Influence designers, architects and engineers to specify DEWALT products through regular scheduled visits and communication 
  • Assess potential application of company products and offer solutions to meet customer needs
  • Hold regular technical presentations and training seminars for design professionals related to the design of Powers products with a focus on testing details, product performance, characteristics, applications and limitations in order to achieve specification 
  • Use technical knowledge of products to support and build sales on specification and conversion in conjunction with local sales team and provide technical job-site support as needed
  • Provide assistance on proprietary technical software to clients and communicate customer feedback for future product developments
  • Support local sales efforts from a technical level – including jobsite visits 
  • Research and present reports showing potential customers the cost benefit of purchasing company products
  • Develop and maintain client records.

What we need 

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Civil, Structural or Mechanical) or equivalent qualifications
  • Professional Engineering (P. ENG) license preferred
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in engineering or technical position or technical sales role
  • Previous experience in the fastening or building construction industry preferred.
  • Impeccable communication skills – both spoken and written – mandatory 
  • Able to handle multiple priorities, organize, plan, and meet difficult deadlines, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong Interpersonal, negotiation, follow-up, and documentation skills
  • Working knowledge of computer applications including MS Office suite products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Able to make group presentations
  • High energy, self-starter, and goal-oriented eager to meet and exceed goals and targets 
  • Outgoing, self-starter, ability to manage own schedule and work as “home-based”
  • Technical sales and/or Construction Jobsite experience a plus 
  • Travel required (30-40%)
