Job Description
The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Assistant Coordinator, Field Education. The Assistant Coordinator, Field Education, assists with the implementation of the field education curriculum for the face-to-face and online social work programs within the School of Social Work.
The position is responsible for the recruitment, selection, and training of community field instructors as well as the placement and monitoring of Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) students in field education sites. Along with the field coordinator, the assistant field coordinator assures that the field placements meet the program and CSWE’s required competencies. The position supports both the BSW and MSW program in identifying curriculum issues and managing program evaluation/assessment and the accreditation process. The position is also responsible for assisting with recruitment and admissions of undergraduate and graduate students.
Field Education Program Management
- Provide support to the Field Education, BSW, MSW, and MSW Online Program Coordinators (hereinafter “Program Coordinators”) in the implementation of the field education curriculum across programs
- Assist with the development of innovative, multidisciplinary, and experiential learning opportunities for undergraduate and graduate Social Work students, including:
- Recruit, contact, and negotiate with agencies for Agency-School contracts
- Assess prospective field sites for potential to offer social work learning opportunities and supervision for students
- Recruit and train field instructors
- Maintain regular communication with agencies and field instructors
- Maintain communication with Pearson to assist online master social work students
- Assures that the field placements meet the program and CSWE’s required competencies
- Assist with the coordination and placement of social work students in appropriate community-based field training sites, including:
- Review student applications
- Collaborate with students to identify possible field sites
- Assign students to interview sites
- Maintain databases and tracking systems for student placement system
- Confirm placements with students
- Maintain communication with students during placement process
Program Operations Support
- Provide support in maintaining the field education program’s database(s)
- Provide support in maintaining the field education handbook and manuals.
- Provide support to Field Education Coordinator in developing field curriculum
- When appropriate, update content for field education program webpage, including forms, policies, and resources for students and field practicum sites
- Participate in all School of Social Work meetings and subcommittee meetings
- assist with recruitment and admissions of undergraduate and graduate students.
Teaching
- Prepare and teach one (1) 3-credit class every year (may include summer session)
School and Profession/Community Service
- Assist with building partnerships with social work practice communities
- Serve on other School and/or Division committees as appropriate
Required Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Social Work and one (1) year of related work experience or
Doctorate Degree and no related work experience
Related Experience: Social work practice or experience administering academic programs/teaching in higher education.

Grants-in-aid
