Full-Time Ferry Division Director
Job Description
- Lead the NC Ferry Division ensuring we continue to provide safe, cost-effective, efficient, and dependable ferry services for the traveling public.
- Ensure Ferry vessels are operated and maintained to the highest level of maritime safety.
- Lead the planning, organizing of resources, directing, and managing of NCDOT’s Ferry Division, including administration, construction, operations, and maintenance teams.
- Lead teams in vessel management and facility management.
- Acquire funding for program needs through state and federal sources.
- Manage the NCDOT Ferry Division within budgetary constraints to deliver programs effectively and on schedule.
- Organize and direct safety and environmental stewardship programs.
- Interpret and apply administrative, construction, operation, maintenance, personnel, and fiscal policies and procedures.
- Provide professional, technical, and administrative guidance and policy interpretation for engineers, supervisors, public officials, Board of Transportation members, and the public.
- Direct the development of policies and procedures related to NCDOT Ferry overall program goals.
- Thorough knowledge of the technical requirements for managing the operation and maintenance of a fleet of toll and free ferries and requirements for maintaining channels, harbors, docks, and other land-based support facilities.
- Experience in ferry administrative planning, engineering, construction, fiscal management, auditing and accounting procedures.
- Thorough knowledge of maintenance and repair requirements of ferry vessels used by the Department of Transportation.
- Thorough knowledge of policies and procedures of NCDOT and the Federal/State laws applicable to the US Coast Guard rules and regulations pertaining to the licensing and operation of state-owned ferries.
- Demonstrated leadership skills in building strategic vision and establishing/maintaining effective working relationships with Federal, State, & local elected officials, business leaders, the public, and other Department of Transportation staff.
- Supervisory/managerial experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree, and
- 6+ years experience in program planning and administration, and
- 2+ years of supervisory/management experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Management prefers candidates with US Coast Guard/US Navy experience.
