Full-Time Ferry Crew Member I – Entry-Level!
Job Description
- Work onboard NCDOT ferries – U.S. Coast Guard certified vessels under the supervision of an Able Bodied Seaman and Ferry Master directing, loading and unloading of passengers and vehicles off and on the ferries.
- Maintain deck and electrical/mechanical equipment and passenger facilities.
- Enforce safety and security regulations by the U.S. Coast Guard regulations.
- Perform shore duties and all other duties.
- Work a 7 days on and 7 days off schedule.
- Basic seamanship knowledge and terms, such as marlinspike, helm commands, and shipboard terms.
- Basic firefighting principles about different classes of fires, how to extinguish them, and proper fire hose handling techniques.
- Experience launching/operating a rescue boat and recovering an unconscious person from the water.
- Experience in personal survival techniques and personal safety/social responsibility.
- Knowledge of the proper technique for removing a 50-pound fire extinguisher from the bracket, carrying to fire, and properly discharging to extinguish the fire.
- US Coast Guard Ordinary Seaman Certificate.
- Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
- Merchant Mariners Certificate (MMC).
- A copy of valid MMC and TWIC card must be uploaded/attached with your application and presented at your interview.
