Boost Child & Youth Advocacy Centre (Boost CYAC) is situated on the traditional territories of the Wendat, Anishinabek Nation, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, and the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation, who have been the traditional caretakers of this land for thousands of years. This land is covered by the Dish With One Spoon Treaty between the Anishinaabe, Mississaugas and Haudenosaunee that bound them to share the territory and protect the land. Subsequent Indigenous Nations and Peoples, Europeans and all newcomers have been invited into this treaty in the spirit of peace, friendship and respect. Organizational Overview

Boost Child & Youth Advocacy Centre (Boost CYAC) is a registered charity that provides a range of services to children, youth and families, who have experienced abuse or violence, within the City of Toronto. We provide individual, group, family and community services that include trauma assessment, counselling, and therapy, advocacy and support services during child abuse investigations, court support and accompaniment services and abuse and violence prevention materials and trainings. Boost CYAC is accredited by the Canadian Centre for Accreditation, an independent non-profit organization that offers accreditation specifically tailored to community-based health and social services across Canada.

Position Overview

The Assessment Directed Therapy (ADT) Program offers services to children and youth (ages 4-17), as well as their supportive caregivers, following disclosure of child sexual abuse/assault, physical abuse/assault, neglect, traumatic grief and/or the exposure to community or family violence. The goal of the program is to conduct trauma assessments to evaluate the impact of the event(s) and provide therapy based on the assessment findings.

Boost CYAC is seeking a Family Therapist to provide crisis and therapeutic support to caregivers, whose child has experienced or is at risk of experiencing human sex trafficking, through a grant funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services.

Qualifications

• A Master’s level degree in Social Work (MSW) , Counselling Psychology or equivalent. Registration in good standing with an appropriate regulatory body.
• A minimum of three (3) years experience providing evidenced-based and/or evidenced informed trauma treatment strategies to children, youth and their families. Experience working specifically with at risk or trafficked youth and their caregivers would be considered an asset.
• Sound knowledge of the field of childhood trauma, particularly complex, developmental and intergenerational trauma, and child and adolescent development.
• Understanding of the stages of exploitation, principles of DBT-C (dialectical behavior therapy) and family systems therapy would be considered an asset.
• Ability to meet the needs of a diverse client base, through knowledge of and application of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, anti-racist and cultural competency practices
• The ability and willingness to work with clients in both virtual and in person sessions and flexibility in scheduling appointments based on client availability.
• Sound knowledge of the Child & Youth Advocacy Model and direct experience collaborating with teams of multidisciplinary professionals and community partners.
• Ability to respond to crisis situations, screen for suicidality or other high risk concerns and develop safety plans.
• The ability to employ self-care strategies and maintain a calm demeanor and positive attitude in relation to potentially stressful situations.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience and ability to write professional clinical reports, case notes and other client focused documentation. Proficient computer skills and experience with client databases and electronic health records.
• Demonstrated flexibility judgement, initiative, confidentiality and a strong work ethic.
• Satisfactory clearance under the Vulnerable Sector Screening process.

Responsibilities

• Provide evidence informed, strengths-based and culturally responsive crisis and therapeutic services to caregivers whose children have experienced or are at risk of experiencing human trafficking.
• Work in close collaboration with the Anti-Human Trafficking Program Coordinator and other members of the Boost CYAC multidisciplinary team (MDT) and non co-located community partners.
• Maintain regular communication and work collaboratively with internal multi-disciplinary or community professionals involved with clients.
• Provide evidenced informed crisis intervention services to clients experiencing high risk safety concerns, as required.
• Maintain professional documentation, in the form of case notes, assessments, intervention reports, progress reports, and discharge summaries, and other statistical information according to regulatory standards and agency procedures and requirements.
• Establish and maintain professional alliances with collateral agencies and service providers and facilitate external client referrals as required.
• Contribute to program development, evaluations and educational activities within the program and organization.
• Support a workplace that embraces diversity and inclusion, encourages teamwork and complies with all the applicable regulatory and legislative requirements.
• Participate in clinical team meetings, centre functions and other meetings as required.

Work Schedule

Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week.

Weekly evening shift required.

Flexible working hours.

Hybrid working model with the opportunity to work from home up to two (2) days per week.
