PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Family Support Coordinator provides leadership and support for the direct implementation of family supportive services, staff wrap-around support community activism including, but not limited to, parent governance over programming, family education, systems navigation, and community activities which directly support the strengthening of protective factors. The Family Support Coordinator also plans, organizes, and executes all Dreamery events. This position supports both Dreamery locations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A requirement for this position includes a CDA (Child Development Associate), an associate or bachelor’s degree in social work or child-related field with two (2) years of experience working with economically disadvantaged families or any comparable combination of education, training and experience.
- Must possess excellent listening skills, the ability to develop positive relationships with families, and have experience in utilizing community resources.
- Must possess reliable transportation and a valid Michigan driver’s license.
- One (1) year experience working with families with young children and one (1) year experience working within the community served.
- Must possess experience managing and supervising volunteers and projects.
- Must possess excellent planning and organizational skills, a background in event planning is preferred.
- Must be a self-starter with the ability to take initiative
- Must pass criminal, child abuse and neglect, and sex offender background checks.
- Demonstrated ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to work with, and collaborate with, community partners.
- Position requires providing support for all Dreamery locations.
- Bilingual (Spanish) skills are preferred, but not required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides outreach, in collaboration with the ECE Resource Manager, in the community to enhance enrollment numbers in order to meet the capacity of the YWCA Dreamery in a way that prioritizes enrollment based on need.
- Works with ILC Leadership Team to develop program components aimed at increasing YWCA Kalamazoo Dreamery’s capacity to assist families.
- Assists with putting processes in place to support families in understanding and meeting their financial obligations to their child’s enrollment.
- Plans and executes all family and staff events (i.e. Friendship Celebration, Picture Day, Muffins with Mom, Summer Kick Off, etc.), as well as creates budgets and shop for all events for both YWCA Kalamazoo Dreamery locations.
- Coordinates, plans, and executes Teacher Appreciation Week, staff appreciation events, spirit weeks, GSRP end-of-year celebration/graduation, etc. for both Dreamery locations.
- Coordinates community partnerships with outside agencies, in collaboration with the ECE Resource Manager, to provide resources and services to our families (i.e. filling out referrals, March is Reading Month with KPL, Party in the Park, FHC Dental Bus, etc.)
- Develops, with Leadership participation/guidance, communications with parents and staff (i.e. letters, newsletters, flyers, pamphlets, permission slips, RSVP’s, Tadpoles messages, calling/texting/emailing families, following up for prolonged absences, etc.)
- Provides community resources for families in collaboration with the ECE Resource Manager (i.e. diaper drive information, food pantry information, parenting support group information, etc.)
- Manages YPAC monthly meetings and implements a variety of relevant topics and activities for the meetings.
- Creates and implements strategies to increase parental engagement and involvement within both Dreamery locations.
- Maintains up-to-date parent communication bulletin board.
- Works in collaboration with the Community Organizer and Trainer: Early Childhood Education, to coordinate Farm2ECE events at both Dreamery locations (i.e. Apple Crunch, Snap Pea Sample Day, etc.)
- Answers questions, supplies resources, and assists families in supporting their child(ren)’s early learning.
- Supports programming events at both Dreamery locations.
- Provides resources to be distributed during behavioral intervention meetings for both Dreamery locations.
- Communicates family needs to Leadership, monthly, for all school-aged children.
- Communicates attendance for each Dreamery location with the admin and kitchen teams.
- Coordinates and manages all events for both Dreamery locations including creating a budget for each event and completing the shopping for the event.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Remain flexible and manage changing priorities on a continuing basis.
- Know and adhere to Association policies, procedures, and practices.
- Safeguard confidential information gained because of the position.
- Comply with Association policy regarding required mandated reporting of child abuse.
- As a YWCA employee, project a positive image of the Association and its programs to the community.
- Work cooperatively with program participants, YWCA staff, and volunteers.
