Full-Time Faculty – Social Studies (Bard High School Early College Manhattan)
Job Description
Job Title: Faculty – Social Studies (Bard High School Early College Manhattan)
Position Description:
Bard High School Early College (BHSEC) Manhattan, a partnership of Bard College and the New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE), invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the Department of Social Studies beginning Fall 2022. BHSEC, a national model in the field of public school reform, enables talented and highly motivated students to move in four years from the ninth grade through the first two years of college, earning an associate of arts (A.A.) degree from Bard College as well as a high school diploma. The academic program emphasizes small class size, seminar-style discussion and a commitment to teaching a diverse student body in a liberal arts environment.
The Department of Social Studies seeks to expand its college electives in Global History, especially in the fields of African or Middle Eastern history from the early modern period forward. The successful candidate will teach the 10th grade Global Studies course as well as college electives and seminars in their field of expertise. Candidates should be well versed in the historiography of global history and interested in collaborating with a team of colleagues who teach the 10th grade course. In addition, candidates will be expected to participate fully in the life of the school.
Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience–evidence of teaching to different learning styles is a plus–and to those whose training and research are interdisciplinary and cross-cultural. A Ph.D. is preferred; qualified candidates with a master’s degree who have exceptional teaching credentials will be considered as well.
The position offers the opportunity to work in a school that is an innovative model in secondary and post-secondary education as a member of a dedicated faculty, most of whom hold doctorates in their fields. Salary is competitive, commensurate with experience.
